808 Processing Techniques?
« on: January 13, 2016, 04:26:49 pm »
Hey guys,

I have recently started experimenting with some trap music.  I usually add a bit of saturation then High cut around 200 hz (depending on the source) yet it still sounds a bit flat. I am wondering what kind of processing do you guys do to your 808 samples (or sounds you have designed yourself), in order to get them to sound heavier and stand out in the mix.

Advice for synthesizing your own 808s, RING MODULATION!!!!
Start with your standard sine wave, (pay attention to phase) then ring modulate 15-30% by any other waveform & mess with the phase until you find a sweet spot that has good harmonics. Then obviously a bit of saturation & lpf as you already mentioned. This has always given me awesome results.
