Progressive House WIP (Any ways to improve the track)
« on: January 12, 2016, 06:57:40 pm »
This a progressive house ID I've been going at for about 2 months now. The intro is a bit orchestral, not sure if I'm going to keep it like that. Lemme know what you guys think. Honest opinions!

Thanks!

Nice one ! I like it !

My main concern would be about the lead. The way I feel it is that it might have too much mids. Maybe it lacks a bit of clarity or brightness.
(thinking of this as an example https://soundcloud.com/wearegalantis/galantis-runaway-u-i-1)

The other point is regarding the break right after the drop. I would love to hear it wide open. Everything feels a bit too centered and close at the moment, I believe you have something really nice going on and it would gain a lot with better spacing and depth. Especially if you get rid of the drums at the very beginning of the break, let everything breathe, and then put them back

yeah the chords and shit are taking up way too much headroom - kick needs to come up a LOT in the mix to anchor the track and then the rest of the elements need to be adjusted accordingly in volume. eq/sound design/mix sound decent otherwise! i would also sidechain the lead so that way when the kick is brought up in the mix everything pumps nicely around it.

writing as i listen. the intro is real nice man, i dig the clock in the background. Buildup is really well done but the part at 1:01 doesnt deliver. Try making it a bit bigger, maybe use a brighter piano, and a crash. The vocals during the drop are a bit loud imo, I really dig the chord progression though. The mix sounds nice and full here, I'm digging the incidentals you added, like right before the second part of the drop, that kind of growly background thing. not sure how I feel about the break after the drop, its not terrible. Couldn't even tell you what it is about it but first reaction was that something felt a little weird. Transition to the buildup is well done, it sounds better in context here than it did in the intro but I think you could still benefit from making the piano bigger. Also maybe some risers or white noise to fill out the spectrum. Also, I'm sure I don't have to tell you its missing an outro haha, but yeah man its pretty much there. Solid ideas, just need to polish up the mix a bit and it should be good to go!
