Siarate - A walk | Indie Electronica
« on: January 11, 2016, 08:56:12 pm »
Hello! :D

I posted this song two months back on my soundcloud page, even though other people was into it and said it was an okay song, I never really liked the song myself. The mix was way to dry and even a little bit muddy, not blaming soundcloud bitrate on that, the muddiness was 100% my own fault. I just recently decided I'd get back to the song and have a proper mixing session. I (tried to) make the percussion, the pads and the baseline more present in the mix by boosting highs and high-passing as many elements of the track as I could. In the end, I'm happy with the result I've got; although I'd be more than happy hear some professionals tell me what I'm doing right/wrong!

Thank you! :D

Really cool song man. Love the vibe and the fullness of it. Bass line is nice and Kick and Snare work well together. Mix sounded nice on my dodgy work headphones haha so must be alright!

Could have been cool if you mixed the percussion up a bit around the 2 minute mark instead of the fast kick and maybe an ambient reverse, reverb vocal or something could have been added to the background of the second chorus just to take it to the next level compared to the first?

But as I said, I really enjoyed it as it was too!

There is like, no dynamic range in your main part of the track at all. I would also change those drum samples to a more... suitable sound for this style of sound.

really loved the transitions to the drop you had originally before you fixed the mix on the track and reuploaded, still great nonetheless

I'm not saying I'm a terrible singer... but I do sound like a fucking donkey so don't expect any vocals from me  :-\ I would however like to have some ambiance in the track to fill out the middle part especially. I'm not going to make any more changes to the track right now but I'll keep this in mind for new projects :D Thanks!

Dynamics are supposed to be pretty much non-existent in the chorus. It's a heavy track, so everything will automatically sound very packed and dynamically lacking. Although if I'm pushing it a little too hard, I'll try and, as I said, keep it in mind for new projects, thank you :D

Decided to throw them out since, with this new mix, they really didn't fit at all... They where a little too cheesy and meh in my opinion, hopefully it still sounds okay without them :) Thank you!

The composition is really fucking cool. The atmosphere is spot on and everything is smooth.

My main concern is the weird main part. It seems like you want it to have that "wall of sound" feel. It just feels too squashed. I think if you would try to increase the dynaminc range on the chorus/mainpart it would improve the track a lot.

The kick and snare samples feel pretty weird too, maybe you should work on them a bit more, I'd suggest making them more defined. Reducing the limiting/maximizing could do some magic to them.

This is all just me, do as you please, but I feel this track would benefit from a softer mix a lot!
