What kind of melodies do you usually create?

What emotions do your melodies evoke? Mine are usually sad/emotional.

Depends on what the song needs.

On a side note, what emotion is "emotional"?

most of the times I want to create something electro or dubstep kind of but rather end up making an avicii kind of melody instead. But thats okay as long as it sounds good!!!

Not sure how to explain emotional, but I'll try. It's like when a melody isn't sad, but it still draws some sort of emotion that isn't light and happy (this is really hard to explain sorry). It's not quite sad, but not even close to happy. Kind of dark. You know what, here's a song:

It's not quite sad, but close. I'm really struggling with this. Hopefully I helped a bit.

I mostly just make whatever I feel like sounds good, and then build a song off of it. Tweaking the melody as I go to help it fit the song better. But that's just me ::)

I think I get the general idea? sort of? but there has to be a better word for that than "emotional". "What kind of emotion you aiming for?" "Oh, you know, emotional."
This is just one of those things that irritates me for dumb reasons because I'm dumb.

Anyway, if someone's melodies trend towards one sound, that can be good, it means you're finding your style. But once you've got that style down, it's important to stay versatile, and find ways to express different emotions. Especially since in EDM, you can't rely on lyrics to show a wide emotional range.

I think the word you're looking for is 'melancholy'

Wow, you have a hilarious way of making fun of people... even calling them dumb by calling yourself dumb. Maybe suggest a word, though... tempestuous, sentimental, somber, brooding, contemplative? You'd have to be pretty mean-spirited to make the comments you did...

Especially since in EDM, you can't rely on lyrics to show a wide emotional range.

... considering the EDM track with lyrics that was posted to address your original red-herring reply. You'd have to be pretty uncaring not to get a clue from something this obvious : https://soundcloud.com/poisonstings/poisonstings-out #emotional

To answer poisonstings question: I usually create jovial, introspective melodies and thematic ideas. If a song is mostly composed (but missing a melody), I'll come up with something to fit the mood of the song.

depends on my current feelings haha

usually if it's not sad, then powerful (like angry), or fun/happy (both are quite similiar)

You nailed it on the head with those words! Especially sentimental, somber, and contemplative.

I make house music so I start with a minor 7th or 9th pretty much everytime and then I just make it up as I got. I know juuuust enough theory to know rules to break and to still be a little experimental with my melodies.

Also depends heavily on what else is in the song and what my lead sound happens to be. if its a happy sounding lead then I shape it around that.

I do a lot of melodies that sound space and go across the place, because my most notable melodies are all done live, because I taught myself apparently similar how to people are taught jazz/blues improvisation, I tend to go towards just playing live expressive melodies, which actually was most of my last album. lol

I like melodies, that express you something, my favorites are euphoric melodies (payback, glow (an21 & max vangeli vs promised land remix), nostalgical melodies (id2), usually the melodies that I don´t like are the ones in something big room tracks that doesn´t express anything, those melodies are really uninspiring and doesn´t have emotion.
