Electro house [updated with cowbell]
« on: January 10, 2016, 09:46:15 pm »
Hi! It would be nice to hear some feedback/ideas on this house track I've been working on. I'm reasonably happy with the composition and most of the sounds, but since I'm a complete noob in EDM, I don't feel very confident about the track. Especially the second drop at around 2:00 doesn't sound quite as badass as I would like.

I haven't really started properly mixing this, but mixdown tips are of course very much appreciated.

And... shit. As I'm writing this I realize that the lead in the end sounds like Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons. Wat do? :-X

EDIT: Updated version here. I think it's definitely an improvement thanks to you guys.

I added some reverb to the arpeggio pluck and to Ralph. I had trouble fitting reverb anywhere else, so instead I embellished the funky parts with some reverse reverbs. And cowbell; I feel like I'll probably ruin the track if I go for anything more complex. As for the drums, I couldn't find a better snare sample (I suck at drums) so I left them unchanged for now.

the second drop sounds sick to me. the only thing i might do is add some reverb to some elements to fill up the mix. other than that i really like it!

Loving the sound. Sounds a lot like late 2000s era Electro/Compextro. One thing is that the drums could be improved the samples sound weak compared to the bass.

Keep it up!

The chord pads coming in at :30 are a bit hot. Just cut the volume a dB or two. At 1:16 add some verb to the arpeggio part.

I'd actually kick off the song with the part at 2:47. That's a great hook for a song called "Meow."

Great stuff here, Arktopolis

This is really nice man, I think some reverb would really bring this track alive.

I'm not sure if I agree with the comment about the samples used, I think it suits the track in not sounding like newer electro tracks. This is like those old school electro tracks, I wouldnt change the samples :) just me 2c

Thanks a lot! I think I'll go experiment with reverbs and drum samples next, then. Agree somewhat about the pads being too hot also. And yeah Dot, definitely called this WIP "Meow" because of that part, but I kinda wanted to make this track slow to build up, and to save something interesting for the end... Have to think about it.

hahaha I like the ralph wiggum lead!  I think that B section of the drop is my favorite, so good!

Only gripe for me is the snare, I think you could have a way beefier and stronger one

Enjoying it so far, I agree with what was said about filling up some space with reverb and what not.  Maybe add some percussion or other drum elements, with electro house it could be sick to add glitch breaks and stuff along those lines! :D
good work otherwise.

Just bumping the updated version (in original post). I'm starting to be happy with the amount of stuff in the track, so next I guess I'll just try to see what I can do about the drums and then finish the mix.

Dude this is dope. The percussion in during the first breakdown is a bit choppy but it also sounds a bit experimental and very interesting which drives me to keep listening. The leads sound a beat dry so adding a touch of reverb wouldn't kill but that's all preference. Either way I think this is tight. Keep it going.
