Mixing tips to help you and me :)
« on: January 06, 2016, 03:36:01 am »
[Obs: this is my example, I think this happens with some people too.]

Hey folks!

Well i have some dificult to understood when i make a music sounds good to my ears, seems like to... the idea is incredible, but the mix is not a good for my ears, i dont know but i work for some months and my ears dont recognize a good mix (maybe my ears is broken)

But i try to separate the frequencys, create a space of L n R thing, cut a especification area of a especification frequency n a lot of things but... the mix when i made is a garbage for me...  I'm like a blind man in a maze!

Exemple this 2 track when i made it (n lost the entire project of all... i lost my backup)

1- https://soundcloud.com/articofc/eventide-chronos

2- https://soundcloud.com/articofc/another-dimension

Two songs when i love it to make it but the mix... its a pure garbage.

Well i need more things to understood a especification mix, or basic tips when make sense for the song (not this two songs) like what i make for the lead Sounds good, the bass, all entire things in a music!

For this if you have a tip n if you can just share it with me n all peoples here, will be amazing better understand this area that I believe it's not just me that has a bit of trouble!

Have a nice day ^^

Yoooooooo,

Remember that mix , most of all is about volume , don't try to over do it compress everything etc , it's kinda over rated , try to adjust volume first and when you'll be happy with the volume you'll see a HUGE différence , then try to eq thing gently by doing substractive eq , then if you're not that happy try to compress Groups gently and it will immediatly sounds proper.

But remember one thing you can't eq a sound wich is already bad from the begining , you can't make miracle with a synth wich is already not good , try picking some other synth that will fit better etc

Try also working with reverb etc to get space and depth in your mix but don't over do it 3-4 different reverbs is enough

Hope I helped !

Blakelight is pretty on point with those tips. Good beginner stuff (and really it's the majority of what you need to know to mix a good track).

Picking good sounds from scratch is definitely important. You can't polish a turd, and magically turn it into chocolate!  It's got to sound decent from the start.

Making room for different frequencies in the mix is important. Make sure you don't have too much stacking up all at the same place. This comes down to making decisions about what you want to stand out in the mix. This can be done though EQing something, or just basic volume adjustments.

Oh, and break your sessions up. Don't try to write and mix all in the same session. Write you track, take a day or two at least off, then go back and do the Mixdown. Fresh ears will help.
