making 1 beat every day for a month
« on: January 10, 2016, 08:46:18 pm »
ok so originally i decided to finish a song every week, but i decided to change it up a little

the main reason i'm doing this is to learn how to sample things from songs since that's something i had never done
and to really just push my output

i'm sick of working on songs for months on end and then deciding you don't like it anymore

https://soundcloud.com/lukefisher (day 7)

post your soundcloud and ill put it in here if you doing the same

There's a renowned Brazilian producer and tutor that made a challenge of 30 songs in a month, and some of his tips after he finished was:

* Create a basic template of the things that you use most, sends of reverb, delay, a sidechain channel etc.
* Don't limite yourself of create timbres from scratch, you can use presets, tweak them a bit.
* Midi Samples you can easily find in the internet (Bass, leads) and is very useful for a quick inspiration
* Preferably disconnect yourself from internet, forget to check email, notifications, etc, you may be surprised with two hours of your focused work.
* When you're producing the track, loop your arrangement to 16-32 beats, to mentalize some elements and variations that can appear in the next 16-32 beats
* The same happens to mixing, loop your arrangement to 16-32 beats and you will preview your track very fast, after some of this loops you'll start find unwanted frequencies.
* Mute some channels when you're listening your arragement, maybe you can find some parts messing your music, (remember in general music, less is more) also lack or excess of some frequencies in the individual channel tracks.

Good luck! I could never do this because it takes me a month to write a song.

I did this in 2014 and can only recommend it, definitely teaches you a lesson about your own abilities. You should use it as an opportunity to diagnose problems in your own creative process and figuring out ways to eradicate them.

I gonna try this for sure, probably next month since it's already 01/11. Hope this helps me to finish some music and improve my workflow

I'm definitely gonna follow the progress of people doing it, though I'm gonna have to wait a bit - the semester starts in 3 weeks and I'd hate to have to mix the two. Gonna be the first thing I do when the semester ends, though. Good luck to everyone that starts it!

There's a subreddit called Song A Week where everyone churns out a song every week for the whole year (obviously it can get done at your own pace because life gets in the way). Despite school and since it's my last semester, I'm taking a crack at it. If this goes well for you, maybe you can continue to make something every week? Good luck to you this month!

Good luck! Unfortunately, I can't join you because of studying problems..
Trying that will make you concentrate and boost up the producing process.  :D

i dunno i think its better actually study the science behind music, causes theres a science behind it,
learn how a track is actually made like, learn to make a melody, a riff you know? how to make a baseline, basslines are fucken important, learn synthesis, eq, how to make an intro, how to use percussion, etc, how to make a pad, chord progressions, etc learn how to use your samples, study the great music out there and your favourite songs, djs, hits, theres a reason why hardwell and armin, tiesto are top of the dj mag

dont make 1 track per day, its not good, you will burn out and quit

yeah you gotta finish tracks start to end too, I'm just saying its better to learn the elements of a song, the science behind it all while making your tracks, or else you are doing the wrong thing and don't even know what you are doing, you gotta finish tracks thats important too
