[Q] Friend starting

Hi

I had no clue at all where to post this, but I thought this would be the best place.

A friend of mine wants to start out making music. He feels inspired by Trouble Andrew and Odesza. However I don't know where to point him to if it comes towards tutorials in the style of these two examples. I'm more House focused so I only know tutorials about House (and dubstep from the past)...

I've already pointed him towards tutorial vids to get to know his DAW better.

I hope someone can help me out a bit.

Cheers!

Well he should probably have a basic understanding of music theory and should probably learn an instrument too.

Wouldn't say you'd need to learn an instrument, its helpful but not necessary.

Just tell him to start by making loops of random shit he thinks cool, it will make it easier for him to become more familiar with this daw. Once hes familiar, he can start making his own songs, and then learn mixing and whatnot. There's a lot to learn and starting out can be overwhelming at times.

usually he should start naturally at things he thinks he need first (maybe he wanted to jump straight to making odesza's sounds or making a full song. that's fine, it will took longer than expected but it'll go well)

try to tell him what those songs are made of first. so he knows exactly what to learn
