How do I pull the vocals out of a finished song?
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:10:37 pm »
Obviously I know this cannot be done perfectly. But does anybody have a decent method for pulling the vocals out of a completely finished track? It sucks when you want to remix a song but cannot find an acapella for the lyrics anywhere  :-\

If you have the instrumental you can get the acapella with phase invertion

Is there another method besides "phase invertion" ?  :'(

A good idea in theory! I just can't find the instrumental or the acapella anywhere :/
If i were to find an instrumental, in order to use phase to remove the vocal would I just play the two on top of each other, invert the phase of the instrumental and record the result? simple as that?

If the vocals are panned down the middle, you can try cutting out the side signal and EQing. It'll still be really messy, but that's the best you can hope for without phase inversion.

iZotope was developing something for extraction without phase invert in the past, but it went silent. I guess it just wasn't reliable enough.

I've been messing around using mid-side processing and turning down everything but the center, then subtracting some eq to remove as much of the instruments as possible, then i'll add another layer with all the original signal in there and invert the phase but I can't seem to get any sort of decent end result. Just figured somebody might have a decent formula that has worked for them

Here's the Plugin which gave me the best result out of all other techniques I have used.Let's say, using this you can get 56% of the vocals enhancing further by other regular you can get 80% of the clean vocal.

Yeah I know it is without any, I just know it's possible to do it with very minimal artifacts.

Yes, but the instrumental and the original have to be the exact same quality
