I'd love to know as well. I've experimented a little with distortion and resonance but it's never gotten me as close as i want to this sound :^(

Granular synths maybe?
A combo of granular synths, samplers, and of course analog/modular synth madness.
The Mangle is my personal favorite granular synth, but there's plenty out there.
