It sounds like the original main lead has some sort of really quick pitch LFO going on.

You could probably be able to recreate the bass with a saw wave + vocoder and some filtering. Haven't tried for myself though.

It really depends for me. Sometimes I get an idea in my head and I start writing, but sometimes I get bored and just start jamming on the piano. After a while I might get a cool chord progression/melody going and I start from there. If I feel really unmotivated to make music I usually just take a walk while listening to something. But I think if you spend alot more time listening to different styles of music it's much easier to get ideas.

I used to use plugins like Volumeshaper, LFOTool and Kickstart alot but I've found that it's easy to get lost in how the curve looks instead of how it sounds.

I usually just import the .wav into Audacity/Adobe Audition and export it at the right settings.

The main sound in Animal Rights (Wolfgang G / Mau5 - https://youtu.be/8QuFmY5q_Ck?t=1m1s ) :)

It's a very guitar-ish sound. It sounds like a distorted saw wave with a bandreject filter being modulated by an LFO. Also sounds like there's a phaser in there.

I gave it a very quick try but I didn't get very close if I'm honest.

Funny enough I think those sounds are made from the noises you get when you e.g. import an exe file into programs like Audacity.
