Thank you so much :) I think the best option is 48 in my case.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / 96000 Hz necessary?
« on: January 27, 2016, 08:54:11 am »
Hey everyone!

I'm producing music on a Windows 7 / 64 bit system with Cubase 8.5. I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 together with Genelec 8040's and I was wondering.. is it necesarry to produce on 96000 hz for the best quality? I feel like my sounddevice is causing some clicks when I produce on 96000 hz. And I had alot of issues with my sounddevices so I wanna do everything to prevent that.

I own Genelec 8040s, i spend alot of money on that.. Am I "wasting" the value of my precious monitors because I don't produce on 96000? and instead on 44? Or isn't that a big deal at all? I really wanna know. I wanna get the best quality out of my system.

Also.. Is it normal that my "High performance mode" in windows 7 actually causes more lagging and clicks than the normal performance mode which is recommered by Windows itself? I contacted Focusrite because I had issues with my device and they told me to change my computer settings to High performance mode... but I think it's better without that.

I just want a good workflow without issues with my sounddevice.

Thanks ALOT in advance.

Sound Design / Is clipping bad when it comes down to sounddesign
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:49:03 am »
Hey everyone ;D

Am I doing it wrong if I ALWAYS(!) avoid red?

Sometimes I (accidentally) clip while working on sounddesign, then I get the impression that the sound is kinda bigger/rougher.. So i'm like, meh, I should try to avoid the red.. and try to achieve the same effect. But I'm not sure if that's actually right... I read somewhere that everyone clips once in a while(?).. that it isn't certainly a bad thing .. but to be honest I don't have a clue. I'm just avoiding red everywhere. Thoughts?

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Some tips on writing chord melodies
« on: January 06, 2016, 11:09:58 am »
I honestly think the best tip to (learn to) create melodies is to re-create existing melodies, all the time, 24/7, untill you do it in less than 2 minutes.

That's my way of doing it, I think there isn't really a "right" way to do certain things when it comes to making music.

I learned it because I used to make MIDI files for some forum back in the days, and I was always the first guy to upload a midi file of a certain song and then people would be all cool and happy and download that stuff.

Because of making midi files 24/7, I learned the piano roll thing really quick. I can write every melody in piano roll if I want to, and when I have something in mind, it's not a problem for me to find the right note. It became a habit over the years and i'm lucky to be able to create melodies this quick. No lessons, never played an instrument or whatever. Just made midi files. Thought this might be a good tip. It's also a really fun way to get insight on melodies and discover how they are made!

PS: don't use midi files. Do it yourself haha
