WIPs / Re: Revolve & ID - [Future House/Bass]

The track is cool, but the first thing I notice is that there's no subbass. It makes the whole track feel a bit empty. After you sort that out, the next thing you should look into is mixing. Right now, the kick sounds really quiet for a bass house song. Good for you though, I wasn't producing back when I was 15!

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: Electronic music and Math

I'd say that it really doesn't help you write better music hardly at all.

I wanna disagree with this statement. While it probably doesn't help to know music math as much as, say, listening to a lot of music and analyzing it, it does help to understand where we get intervals, and their relationships with each other. For example, lower harmonics are generally more consonant, like the third harmonic, which is a 5th, and the 5th and 6th harmonics, which are major and minor thirds. Understanding these facts may help to explain why people see these intervals as consonant, or at least give a partial explanation. Maybe this isn't a direct benefit from understanding math, but it definitely helps.

I would also look into Fourier analyses, which are cool if you understand the math behind them (which, tbh, I still don't understand)

The riser sounds like a low quality rip, maybe replace it with a higher quality file? Other than that, the base idea sounds really cool, I would love to see it fleshed out a little more. The intro sounds like it could use more layers. The drop is really cool as it is now though!

Those hats feel likda necessary to the whole vibe, I would go for the second version, personally. Also, I feel like the melody is a little repetitive. Maybe change it for the second time around, or double its length? The structure works fine, though! (I think)

This is a nice track, the vibes are mellow, but it's still dance-y. The chords are cool, but maybe they could be a little drier. The high hats are noisy too, or maybe they're just loud. This is going in a really cool direction, I hope to hear more of your music soon!

I'm not part of #TranceFamily, but I do have some input. Could you upload a version that's not recorded on a phone? It's kinda hard to hear the mix and what's different from the original. The percussion is cool, and, from what I can hear, the kick sounds really well done. This is a really cool interpretation, and I wish I could hear more of it so I could give more feedback!

First thought is that the snare is incredibly short. Like, its kinda unsettling, but it works I guess. Also this feels more to me like trap, but whatever, genres are lame anyway. The lead that you're using is kinda weird for the drop, I feel like you could replace it with something else more percussive. The breakbeat is cool, and I think you could ride on that a little more. Other than that, I don't really know what else to say. This is a cool start!

Also, where is that picture from? I feel like I've seen it before.

WIPs / Re: STORM (work in progress)

Have you thought about where you were going with energy manipulation? Like, where you want the climax to be, and where you wanna start building up for a drop? This sounds like the start to something really nice, but I feel like a lot of stuff is buried behind the drums. At this point, I reccommend that you just learn as much about the technical aspects of production as possible, watching youtube tutorials and streams and stuff. Don't forget that you should always be trying to gain something meaningful while you make music!

WIPs / Re: WIP | Need some ideas on breakdown melody
« on: January 07, 2016, 03:41:52 pm »
Sounds pretty cool, I'm not sure how I can help you make a breakdown melody, but I really like the chord progression you got going on. Maybe try listening to the chords while arpeggiated and see if that inspires you somehow? Or maybe listen to some similar music to see how they do their transtitions? Good luck finishing the song!

WIPs / Re: Nu World | Close to done, need some opinions! [Bass House]

I dunno if its on purpose, but the little vocal chop that you have in the riser is only a 2nd away from the root, which is a little unorthodox. Maybe try a more consonant interval like a 5th or something? Also, the song seems to lose a ton of energy after the riser. The big thing you should be thinking about in a drop isnt so much how it sounds, but how it retains all the energy that you've built up during the riser. I would recommend adding a supersaw chord at the beginning of each bar, or a percussion loop early on. I don't know where you want to go with this track, so these are decisions you would have to make yourself. The wobble is a cool idea, and the rhythmicness that you have going on with it is nice. Hope I was helpful!

To me the strings feel like theyre a little abrasive, but the percussion is cool. Check out movie scores and stuff to see what other layers you can add onto this song. Maybe a choir or cellos or something? This sounds like its going in a cool direction, keep it up!

If I were you, I would look more into music theory and how it works, maybe study some progressive music that's already up on Hooktheory. You seem to know what you want to put into the track, but the execution feels a little organic (which can be good). Let me know if I need to elaborate on anything I said, and keep learning!

This is a cool idea, but I feel like it doesn't go as far as it could. The instrumentation doesn't feel like it meshes with the percussion too well to me. Maybe process that plucked mandolin-y sound some more? Or change the drums to more acoustic ones, like maybe a taiko or a janggu? This could go somewhere cool, but its up to you to make it work!

WIPs / Re: RUDE - Bliss WIP [Ethnic Trap] Feedback for a Follow
« on: January 06, 2016, 10:16:31 pm »
This track feels really repetitive and the focal point never really feels like it ever shifts from those two samples you used, which would be fine if you used it in more different ways. I would recommend maybe some effects or more chopping in different parts of the song. Also, I'm not sure if the key change is deliberate, but even if it is, it feels a little out of place. If you're gonna change the key, maybe change it to a more common key change interval, like a 2nd or something. Keep on doing you!

WIPs / Re: Hesitation | Brooding neuro/garage/trap vibes... feelsy

This song has an interesting vibe. The atmospheric vocals are cool, and this song is full of some crazy sounds. If I had to mention something, I would say that the lead and snare feel a little buried under the higher pitched thing and the sub. Also, the piano seems a little quiet and dry. Nice track!
