This was something I made ages ago on the Dubstepfourm Growl Bass thread and it has a kind of similar tone to it I guess (I was going for a Kill The Noise style sound but it's somewhat similar to the example you mentioned.)

I don't actually have Massive installed right now but I'll just throw a bunch of batches at random that I made that have a similar sound based on what I remember, though I'm pretty sure either "Kill The Noise Growl" or "Growl Patch" is the one that used just M-Talk I made on that DSF thread

Cool sound and quite KTNy but not really quite the sound I'm talking about. This class of sounds has more weird harmonics and isn't so much growly as "square" sounding.

Sound Design / Zomboy Bass

Been trying to figure out the sound at 1:51 and other variations of it. It seems like it falls into the same category as a lot of Zomboy's basses, as if the other sounds in the drop are this same patch but with tweaked parameters in Massive.

I've also heard people use these sounds so the knowledge is out there for sure. I got kind of close with this:

Any replies would be appreciated

If you use Ableton try a saw into some weird EQ or a phaser and then Saturator>Waveshaping enabled and mess with the settings.

I suck at sound design... How do I make this bass? https://youtu.be/XkWkHX2TNp4?t=1m8s

KOAN Sound use reason, but pretty much no one else does (HeRobust does too) so I don't know exactly how. But standard reese techniques involve:

1. Cool waveform (usually detuned saw)
2. lots of notch filter movement, bandpass movement, volume movement.
3. EQ shaping
4. chorus, short reverb
5. parallel distortion, parallel saturation, multiband distortion, multiband saturation
6. compression
7. perhaps repeat #2

Pro-Q 2 to cut below 30hz, OTT on 5-10%, Ableton Utility automating the gain here and there to make hype sections hype, and AOM Invisible Limiter.
