Finished Tracks / Two new(ish) tracks I'd love some feedback on
« on: March 17, 2016, 11:01:02 pm »
The Treatment:
Started this one about a year ago, picked it back up last fall.

Covex & Enzalla ft. Bella Musser - Ordinary Lies Remix:
Started this 4 days before the deadline for the competition. I think it came out pretty well, but I wish I'd had the time to start earlier.

Any and all feedback is appreciated! I still have no idea what I'm doing with mixing/mastering, so if that's something you're good at then let me know how I did on these tracks.

Dude, vibes.

I dig the pad, I dig the sample, and I dig the progression of the track.

For criticism, I would say that the drop was a bit boring the second time around, even for something chill like this. Some variation in those little 'woop' noises may have helped that. Also (though it actually kind of worked), the kick was a bit too quiet in my opinion. I don't think it needed to be the loudest thing going on by any means, just a bit louder in the mix.

Solid stuff dude, I really like the style :)

This is nice! I dig the vibe of it :)

As far as feedback goes, I'd say that it is a bit repetitive and the drop kind of gets stale the third time around. That said, all of the elements in the track fit very well together. I don't think there was anything that really felt out of place to me. Also, I felt that there was a significant lack of bass in the kicks. I think that an excessive amount of bass in the synths would have ruined the vibe of the track, but at the very least I think the kicks should punch through a bit more in the low end.

For a first full track, this is impressive, man! Keep it up!

WIPs / The Treatment [120 Electro] | Creative/Mixing Advice?
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:51:05 am »
Hey guys! I'm really excited to be a part of the forum!

This will the second track that I will release, so I still consider myself quite the newbie when it comes to... well, everything.

https://soundcloud.com/wredmusic/the-treatment-wip-1-3-16/s-S10DE

This track is probably 80% done. Just needs a few creative tweaks (that I'm hoping you guys can help me with), a specific sample I'll be digging for tomorrow for the builds, and some proper mixing (the state it's in now is pretty raw, kinda just want to hear what you guys think when listening on your setups, as my ears are so biased to how it sounds now).

Creatively, I'm really wondering about how well the lead patterns fit with all the other elements and the vibe of the track. I'm pretty confident in my basses (went for a shadient vibe because he's one of my biggest inspirations these days), but don't hesitate to give suggestions on them too!

Thanks!

The beginning stuff is very pretty! Engineering-wise, I would say to at least sidechain the bass to the kick, and maybe *lightly* sidechain the reverb to the kick as well to give the click of the kick some more presence.

As for the last part, it's very odd in contrast to the beginning. The crunchy part felt a bit off rhythm with the kick, and I think that you might want to add in some sort of pluck to this, either during the part you uploaded, or in the next section of the drop.

Really interesting stuff. Also, personally I think that your style of music would greatly benefit from some nice chill vocal layers over the pads too :)

Really enjoying the Rameses B remix, though I agree with you that the drums are a bit too loud. The kick seems fine, but all the other drum elements are a bit harsh. Could just be a mixing issue but I'm not knowledgeable enough to give proper advice on that.

The Nitro Fun remix is reeeaaally nice, I think that if you're looking to keep the same vibe going throughout the track, a nice, slow piano progression thing like you have in the intro would be cool for a bridge, along with some ambient noise, then drop back into a variation on what you have. If you're looking to switch it up to be more energetic for a sort of second drop, you could build it up into a supersaw-heavy, Porter-esque 4x4 thing, or even go into some DnB.

These are both great for where they are though, keep it up!

Dude this is funky, I dig it! My only criticisms in this stage are that the clap iss a bit long and muddy, and the kick is a bit boring. That's totally subjective though, keep it up :D

This was pretty great! I'm certainly no pro when it comes to mixdowns, but I couldn't really hear anything glaringly bad about the mix. Comparing it to a couple of (mastered) tracks I like that are similar to it, I'd say that the kick might need a bit more bass to bring it out some more. All the elements came through clean and clear and nothing sounded "muddy" or anything to me  :)
