Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Producers that defy aging
« on: January 24, 2016, 09:14:06 pm »
Dunno how old is BT but he's been in the industry for ages and he's a fucking genious
Also ripped of every engineer he's used , taken credit for work he's not done and abused his interns .A real class act

wow, that's pretty shocking

Not nearly as old as some of those mentioned, but Tycho didn't start making music until he was 20 or so (I think he mentioned that in an interview) and was working as a full time graphic designer. Also Jay Z is 46. Daft Punk are in their 40's too now. Very inspiring!  :D

short clip of it here!
that recreation is good, the bass sounds similar, though i'm not hearing the high pitched noisey things you put in yours (maybe that recording's just bad tho) in it, cool as they sound. when i get home i think i'll try to recreate it, but that sounds good so far!

also, people who have seen him on the pixel empire tour, what's new on it? i saw the adventure show, but it sounds like this is different maybe? :O

Oh ok thanks! I don't think he put the part about it being called together on twitter, so that's why the confusion. And it's footage from the first one, in portland at the roseland. I haven't seen the adventure show, but there were a ton of edits of his songs off adventure, and a few new songs. He said that the tour stuff was unreleased so I'm gonna say it's probably a lot of brand new stuff edit wise. Honestly it was kind of hard to tell what was an edit and what was a new song, but I'm sure when more videos of the concert come out it will be easier to discern.

Back on topic, I think rhythm wise the bass maybe a little off as well, but with that said, it's a great effort! Good job!

Hey!
There is this new Madeon Live Song called Together
I remade it, well this is how it sounds with the Imperium Bass i`d made earlier it`s a similar sound. It should decay longer
Notes may be off because I decided to have a little more fun with it
Here it is:
https://soundcloud.com/matt-viper/madeon-together
Try it yourself it`s a cool sound!
Sounds cool! Is there a video of the original anywhere? can't find anything on it

I second this! Did you do this from memory? Either way i'm sure in the coming months we'll have a better/some kind of reference. His new tour is incredible!  :D

Agreed! This is such a good resource, but read it slowly because it is a TON of information to take in, it goes very in detail. Very much worth the read, though.

This is super cool! Nice Job! I couldn't hear any glaring problems either, so you got that going for you, and I would agree that a vocalist / some vocals could really enhance this. Very nice job! :D

Hey nice job! I don't think it sounds super unprofessional at all, its actually pretty good! The first part was a bit off putting (something about transposing a voice that low and having it sing for that long) in a good way, and the second part was a nice surprise, it does start to feel a little bit repetitive towards the end, but other than that, nice job! This is a good track!

wow I am dumb, thanks for that! The suggestion then, is why not make this on by default? (unless of course this is just some weird browser specific bug that only applies to a handful of people)

Got a lot of requests about this, had no idea how to fix it until now. Thanks @aaron for the fix, i've applied it as default for everyone!

I gotchu ;)
Thanks to the both of you for making that happen! Really happy to see the site is constantly improving and you guys are receptive to feedback. It may not seem like it, and i'm sure at time it can be a thankless job, but I really appreciate how you guys have handled the site and been fairly transparent and communicative on everything, so thank you!

Sound Design / Re: The Kick Designing Thread: Click, Punch, Thump!
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:03:58 pm »
Ok, so I have a question. Why is this preferable (if it is) to just finding one really good sample and going with that? Most kicks seem to have the elements you can layer in (like a transient). Is this genre specific, or just a good mixing technique? Wouldn't it be that if you have a kick that doesn't have what you're looking for, you look for a better sample? I'm genuinely curious and don't think i've ever had a proper explanation of why this is beneficial, anyone care to explain/help me out?

Great job! I agree about the high frequency stuff being a little painful, the distortion early on doesn't help and sounds kinda weird. I will add too that in the beginning a kick with no high frequency material  works, but as soon as the bass comes in it gets very difficult to distinguish when the kick is hitting as the bass is occupying the lower frequency and the kick has no high frequency to help it stand out. It may be worth it to try and cut away/eq either the bass or the kick's low frequencies (the bass is a good idea in this case) somewhere around 100hz would be a good starting point, but its up to your ears. Great job otherwise, love what you have going on in this song!

Maybe i'm just crazy and this is only something I notice, but it would be nice if after replying to someone, you weren't booted back to the producers forum homepage, and instead stayed in the thread/sub forum you were posting in.

Daft Punk, Chvrches (such clean mixing!), M83 (songwriting wise), Tycho, and Jonny Hopkins

Daft Punk - Discovery, hands down. The album that still amazes me. imo nearly everything on there is top notch. Then seeing (over youtube) their Alive 2007 tour which blew me away. After that, Justice with Cross and seeing their live tour (again over youtube, they never toured near where I live) I was hooked.
