WIPs / Very synthy-Moombahton but very formulaic
« on: June 25, 2016, 11:16:01 pm »
Trying to get more creative with my productions, as you can see I rely a lot on long synth notes and kickstart lol. But at this point in my producing career (1 1/2 years ish) it's kinda my sound, a combination of a lot of the genres I like.

Any type of feedback is welcome! :)

My mixing/mastering skills are slim to none as you can tell lol

Here are 3 examples
http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/oGbhUPiR/file.html (1st drop is just straight moombah)
http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/lNwaGdrD/file.html (didn't change anything in this remix except for the drop)

So is this something good for complete beginners to pick up?

I browse this section of the forum and honestly I am completely lost most of the time. I'm at a point in my producing lifespan where I can make good songs but I am 100% clueless when it comes to anything mixing/mastering related.

Does this book still apply to someone on my learning level?

I would suggest this for you. It's more about the mindset (equally important as technical understanding) than what other people would talk about. It's an easy door to walk through in terms of understanding things in a very common language. It'll offer a good foundation of understanding that you can take with you for the rest of your career.

Thank you. Think I'm gonna order a copy of this and the book linked in the OP.

Sorry, but Camel probably took it down for a reason (so they can sell more camelphat). If you can find an already public link be my guest, but I don't want trouble from software companies

The company was bought by Apple and now their Alchemy synth is free with Logic Pro X.

Not sure what happened to CamelCrusher, I got it before the sale happened luckily.

Edit: I see someone has already pointed this out, my bad.

I know for a fact that WRLD only uses Sylenth and Soundfonts for his sounds.  Most Future Bass sounds are just simple waveforms (saw/square or sine for those nice plucks).  The key is all in the voicing of chords and writing the music, which for me has always been the most difficult :P

Yup.

The best advice I've been given as a producer so far was from my buddy 2 months back who told me to focus on finding good chords instead of the right synth preset.

Anyone know how to make a Porter Robinson-esque Arp?

Drop is at the very beginning of the video, the shiny keys in the background that really add a lot, anyone know?

Is this tutorial only useful for those making bass/dubstep heavy music? Watched the first 5/10 minutes a week ago and got that vibe.

I just got Serum and I'm looking for a good tutorial, but that bass/dubstep kind of stuff isn't quite my direction.
