WIPs / Mix feedback on this new electrofunk/bass track?
« on: July 15, 2017, 03:13:20 pm »
https://clyp.it/qt04jlfs production is basically complete, but this track really needs some mixing work to stand out! let me know if you have any specific suggestions or tips.

Thanks :)

It's got a really nice vibe to it, and fits the vocals pretty well overall. however I'm concerned that it gets a little to repetitive, especially in the second half. it would take a bit of work, but changing up instrumentation, breaks/oneshots or rhythm could make a huge difference, allowing this track to stand out better. Good job though :)

I think you could help the atmosphere of the track a lot by starting out with more lofi/subtle drums, rather than the crisp set you're using right now. Secondly, the synths are also a little too clean: playing around with distortion and saturation could help warm up their sound and make them feel more organic, as well as adding dirt and grit. Overall the idea is solid, but it needs work on the tone/presentation to get it where it needs to be  :)

hey thanks for the feedback, I thought I was getting brushed over! the slidey synth is probably annoying at times haha, it's really there more for the setup when the key shifts: I like playing with melodies/riffs and putting them in a different context from time to time.

I would like to know what you mean by side-chaining it if you could elaborate (like to the kick/another instance with volume compression or something else)?

glad you like the switchups and grindy bass and all that. the grime over the bass is really just the 808 super saturated and highpassed if you're interested, pretty good way to add harmonics that I've picked up from producers like g-jones and ekali.

lmk if you ever need feedback in the present or future :)

This is very nice actually, the drums are complex enough to be interesting but not aggressive, and the panned arp/beep sounds adds to the ethereal spacey synth atmosphere that you have going on.

I could see this going in a lot of directions, like some sort of future bass drop/chorus or maybe you could 4onthefloor the beat to brighten things up!

Hey all, I'm finishing up this mid-tempo track right now and would love some feedback on it! composition is mostly done and I've brought the volume down for mixing purposes, so any general advice would be great!

Thanks and I'm glad to help all of you as well. https://soundcloud.com/entr-py/find-me/s-fHS65

very lucid and pretty, I like :). the sub feels a little muddy to me but otherwise it's very good. maybe just check that it's completely centered/mono or that nothing else is interfering with those frequencies.

hope that helps

For your dance demo, I think it's really lacking punch with the kick/lowend area. the kick is a little too 808/lofty for this kind of track; I would reccomend looking for something with more of a click and shorter release so it hits harder. additionally sidechain compression would do wonders. depending on what daw you use find a way to chain the kick instances to the leads/pads etc so that when the kick hits the rest of the audio ducks down and gives it some space. if you tune it right it wont even feel like you touched the mids at all!
