Mixing/Mastering / layered synths make hiss noise
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:52:58 pm »
i have a bunch of layered synths and although i love the overall sound of it, there is so much hissing in it. by that i mean, excess noise coming from the 10-15kHz range. it's really annoying and was wondering if there is a good solution to remove the noise. thanks.

kind of hard to tell honestly but i would say a mix between deep house and future house.

edit: i think ocular's criticism is good enough so i don't need to state out the problems.

not bad, although it could use more sub. mix sounds very low, kick isn't really standing out and snare seems to be very wide. to improve on your next song, add some sub, high cut around 120-130khz. another important thing is making sure everything in the mix has its own place so it can stand out. that involves kicks, snares, leads, etc. make sure you low cut leads, chords, and the bass so that the sub and kick have its own room in the low end part of the mix. then boost the highs if necessary. i like the track and how it starts off, and feel like the lead and the overall chord progression is nice & i feel like you can improve heavily if you continue to make music. good luck

i think it's okay but the chorus could have had more in it because it feels a bit empty. the snare could have been a bit better imo, i don't think it's the mixing but the choice of samples used for this track. at around 5:06, the sub/bass sounds muddy. i think you should mix it better, cut off the low end of the bass and high cut the subbass and use stereo width to make it sound wider. i also feel like the sounds you used for the bass could have been better which is why i feel like it sounds a bit weird. try layering the bass with other sounds and properly eq out the other frequencies to the best of your ability. some cool things that could have been added is to pan some sounds to the left and/or right like the main lead that is heard around 2:57. the remix is interesting because it's different and i love to see other people try new & different methods of making music and this remix does have different sounds, i just think it needs proper mixing.

Not bad, really digging the fullness of the keys!It would be cool if you put some bass stabs in there maybe every 8 bars or so change things up. I mean keep the keys obviously, but maybe layering something on top ya know?
musically this is pretty damn cool, but I feel like changing up the sounds and adding some processing would make this golden. Also, the snare is a little too wide to my ear, it sounds airy rather than punchy to me. I would create two layers, one nice and wide and airy like you have, and another one with a 200hz bump to add some thump (unless that airy sound is what you were going for)
thanks for the feedback! as for basstabs i may potentially add them to 'spice' things up in the song. as for the snare, i was actually just messing around with it in fl and i think i made it more punchy than 'airy' as you described.

subbass/bass could be a bit wider and stronger. try using stereo width to make it wider along with the snare. it needs some more mixing because it's not standing out too much in the mix. you should be able to find help about stereo width in the mixing/mastering sub forum. besides all of that, the idea isn't bad whatsoever. i think it has potential after it's mixed and mastered. hope this helped & goodluck!

Mixing/Mastering / tuning drums
« on: January 06, 2016, 05:59:26 am »
so i have been trying to figure out how to properly tune drums (kick specifically) to fit the right key of the song but I'm confused as to how to do it. I have watched various YouTube videos on it but I feel like most don't go in depth with it and don't explain in detail on how to do it. would be appreciated if someone helped. thanks in advance.
