It sounds like simple sidechain compression to me. Though, to emphasize a rising effect you can use your synth's modulation matrix to lightly link the cutoff to velocity, then change the velocity in the midi pattern to get a more pronounced rising effect.
Numb The Pain:
I believe there are two separate midbass grooves here playing different patterns on different octaves, both playing D# and dipping down to C#.
I like to add a bit of groove on my midbasses as well, so they don't sound so plain.
