Now this is all in good fun. I know there are some stellar trap producers out there. But, as it is in every genre, there seems to be an influx of just subpar tracks.

i've been slowly compiling playlists of songs that have been important to me over the past few years, and paying more attention to little things that i do in my own songs that i like and want to keep doing. also, keeping folders of inspiring art that i want the songs on my EP to feel like helps.

also, a question about writing albums. do any of you guys have problems where you'll use ideas in one song, but then start on another song and use the same ideas (chord changes, drum sounds, etc), but the new song sounds better so you scrap the old one? i keep running into that lately, i guess i need to get better at leaving ideas in their own songs.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's all part of the process.
