Sound Design / Re: The "How do I make this sound?" thread
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:41:34 pm »
Anyone know how to get that high frequency screechy sound used by MUST DIE! Often?

Also I want to know people's thoughts on how the Main Vocaley bass sound in the drops of SMASH! By Barely Alive & Twine were made ?

Thanks!

On avoiding dimensional expander on bass sounds- I think it's really
Upto you. I usually try and use a very very small amount of phasing, and use the expander function more, but like I said, it's all up to you, and do whatever sounds good to you ^.^

Mixing/Mastering / Re: DONT MIX WITH ANY HEADPHONES MADE BY BEATS BY DRE!

I think it is pretty common knowledge, but it can't hurt, becuase who knows, someone may just be starting out and not know what equipment is good for the studio and what should just be used for pleasure listening

Mixing/Mastering / DONT MIX WITH ANY HEADPHONES MADE BY BEATS BY DRE!
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:22:19 pm »
Very Important !!! Beats like to turn up the bass in the headphones they make, so when you mix with their products, you are not listening to an accurate representation of your actual song :)

They may be fashionable, and make that Skrillex remix your listenin' too sound like its on steroids, but make sure you use some nice simple Studio/Mixing headphones when working on your new killer dubstep track, and Listen to how amazing it sounds after your finished with it on your sexy green Beats Mixrs ;P

Hope this advice helps!

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Let's talk clipping
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:15:13 pm »
I know most big artists like Skrillex and such do usually allow some clipping becuase if it's used in the right way, it can add a certain heaviness to your track, just don't go overboard. I personally try to never clip, and when I want everything to be louder, I turn up the computer as opposed to turning up the master of all the instruments :)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: EQ'ing a Kick
« on: January 06, 2016, 07:09:34 pm »
I'm not expert but I've learned from experience is that you really don't want your kick and subbass to clash. I advise at some point just soloing those two channels, and seeing if your kick is in key with your song, then adjusting the pitch if necessary.
Also, even though we all love love love a big bassy punchy kick, you only want one instrument or sample to be holding the job of providing the lows in the track, and if you do have both, make sure they actually sound good togethor. This is just my two cents, and I'm by no means a professional, this is what I've picked
Up on the topic of EQ'ing kicks :)

Sound Design / SERUM Tips & Tricks
« on: January 06, 2016, 06:43:30 pm »
Hi! Just post one small tip of piece of advice and lets see if we cant all learn something new here ;)

I'll start with 3-

Use the FM from B effect super duper often, it helps you make really really cool unique sounds
Dont be afraid of automation! It always helps a sound to be more interesting by adding a little bit of movement !
Dimensional Expander effect! Use it! Just adding a little bit of it to any sound helps make your sound feel larger and adds just a tad bit of color :)

Hope this forum can help some people just diving into Serum, which is personally my Favourite VST of all time

I personally (may just be me) love vocodex, it has so many options, and is just so tweakable and can be used for crazy bass sounds, or making your voice sound perfect with that sweet new melodic house track you've started on ;)
