Finished Tracks / Re: Something Else - Experimental

John,

Really cool track dude, I'm usually quite cautious when I see "experimental" as a Soundcloud tag but this is awesome...!

Loving the glitchy sounds mixed with the ambient/relaxing synths.

Whats with the cool looking waveform on Soundcloud? Just to please the eye? ;)

Gave you an add and urge you to make some more stuff like this. What software are you using?

Slunk

Thanks man! I'm glad you enjoyed it, not the usual stuff I produce but it's a very fun process :)
The DAW I'm on is Cubase 8.5, have been using it since Cubase 5!

Cheers

Haha fuck, it's damn near identical! Would be fun to hear some details on how you created these synths?

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: ADAM A7X vs Dynaudio BM6 MKIII

I've used the ADAM and Dynaudio, and many other monitors over the years,  that we've had in for review and evaluation.

If you're looking in that price range—and for that level of performance and better— you should seriously consider the APS Klasik.

Wow looks very interesting!
I won't be able to give them a listen, looks like they aren't in Sweden yet. How would you compare them to the Dynaudio BM6s?
And Dynaudio BM6 vs A7X? I'd love to hear what you have to say :)

So like the topic goes

I'm so torn between which one go purchase. I own a couple of ADAM F7s right now and I like them a lot, but I think it's time to go up a class.
I was listening to a couple of Dynaudio's today (although BM5s) and I loved them, very nice bottom-end and flat sounding, but with slightly harsh/exaggerated highs IMO.
The A7Xs was sold out unfortunately so I couldn't give em a listen. But I've heard nothing but great things about the A7Xs.

Anyone with experience of the two here?

Contact me for PayPal details.

Ha :) But I'd love some feedback on this track. It's a sort of mellow / tropical-ish track with me singing some vocals also.
And thanks to "Daimon" here on the forum for the artwork!

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Your inspiration for your name
« on: March 10, 2016, 02:35:52 pm »
Well, John is my middle name, which is a name after a "John Bergkvist" that was like a second dad to my father when he was little, his father was never around.
Then I added "Mode" cause it I thought it sounds pretty dope :D

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Artwork for singles?
« on: March 10, 2016, 08:54:49 am »
I was just thinking how hard it is to find a place where you can find a designer to make artwork for example, a single.
We all know how important it is with a great picture to attract people to your tracks.
I've lately been using "Canva", paying 1$ for a pretty cheap looking picture with my name splattered on it.
Before that I tried Fiverr but those are just awful imo.

So I was wondering how you guys do it? It feels like you have to know someone to get a decent picture for your track.

Hello everybody!

I've just finished this track here and I would love to hear what you think.
The vocals are sung by myself, recorded on a Samson USB microphone. Been dying to get the Shure SM7B though.

115 BPM, Genre I have no clue.

Really hope you enjoy it!

Awesome track, I enjoyed that!
Some elements could use a bit more attention mixing wise, but overall this is a solid one!

Love the way the track starts out with the field recording and then that single-coil guitar.

Vocals are processed decently and the singing is good but the lyrics are super trite. Like, ruin-the-song trite. Study the sort of top-lines Kygo tends to end up remixing-- Kyla La Grange, Ed Sheehan, MGMT-- think about the messages in their songs and why they do or do not resonate with you. Think about how they structure their lyrics. They tend to have something that would resonate with people a little bit more than lyrics about the weather.

The drop sounds very full. Like, a little too full. You need to drastically reduce the elements you have in the low-mid and low-end.

The Kygo-style synth you bring in at the second drop is really nice and very catchy. I also like the kind of Fleetwood Mac-style harmonizing you have in that second drop. Great vocal layering!

If it was my song I would slow the BPM down by three or four. Tropical house is typically slower and DJs would be slowing this down in Traktor anyway in order to mix between the other trop-house songs they would be playing.

A good start that could use some finesse and polish and a re-writing of the top-line.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!
I can't do anything but agree to everything you've said. As for the lyrics, I know they're not good, but in lack of a real singer / top line writer I'll have to make due, and I realize a song about the weather might not be the greatest of ideas lol.
It's not my strength, far from it ;)
If you're a singer I'm 100% open to trashing this top line and make a new one, more modern.

And I'll take your tips on the mixing to action, it's great with a fresh set of ears.
And I actually had the song at around 120-123BPM before, but somehow started to think that the track felt to slow. It's not the typical tropical sound ala 100-110 bpm, but 128 BPM might be to quick.

Thanks again!
