WIPs / Flowstate Progressive Trance!
« on: April 15, 2016, 05:22:41 pm »
Hey guys, just nearly finished with this song but would love to get last minute feedback on the mixing and general impression of the song. Are the vocals too loud/not balanced? Does it entertain you throughout the entirety of the song or does it get boring? What kind of emotions does it emit and at what point? What do you like/dislike about the song? Etc.

Thanks for the feedback!!

WIPs / Trance Collaboration Anyone?
« on: April 10, 2016, 01:56:07 am »
So I'm pretty solid on melodic breakdowns but I have a hard time creating the other parts for a full song. Instead of trying to do this on my own, I figured one of you guys could help me finish! If anyone is interested in helping me complete this song let me know, I'm down to collaborate to get something fresh  8) I used Ableton Live but if we click like peanut butter and jelly then we can make it work.

Here's the song I want to collaborate with, just made this today. Also, I'm still open for feedback and constructive criticism! Let me know what you think about the track, if you want to collaborate, if you want to say hi, whatever :b

WIPs / Batman + Techno + Flowstate
« on: April 04, 2016, 02:43:21 am »
This is what you get when Batman enjoys knocking people out at techno clubs. I kind of tried something different, started this last year but never continued it until now. Let me know if you see potential and if I should finish this. The volume isn't exactly right but let me know what you think about this style within progressive techno/trance genre.

« on: March 27, 2016, 12:48:18 am »
Hi all, a few days ago I found a really sweet vocal snip of the tv show, The 100. Decided to try and create a full remix of the song. Let me know what you think! I want to emit emotion and depth in this song so let me know if I achieve that or not. Thanks!

WIPs / The 100 (tv show) + Trance :D
« on: March 21, 2016, 02:05:43 am »
Hi all, I found a really interesting vocal snip from the tv show, The 100, and wanted to give it a trance remix. It's very simple trance, as I wanted to get the fundamentals down first. Let me know what you guys think, if I should change anything that sounds off or if it's good enough to move forward. Thanks!

WIPs / Alan Watts + Minimal Tech... very interesting
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:27:26 pm »
Hi all, this is a little different than what I usually do! I went on a tangent but decided to go with the flow. Anyway this is what I ended up creating. I wanted to get full, clean, crisp sounds without much layering so let me know if you think it was accomplished right! Any tips and comments welcomed (:

Mixing/Mastering / My music just sounds.... off?
« on: March 10, 2016, 07:17:27 pm »
Hey guys, every time I try to finish and complete a song, everything just sounds a bit off, out of place, or "backwards". I can't pin point exactly what it is but it doesn't sit well when I play it back. Any tips on how to achieve a better overall sound?

Right now I'm thinking it has a lot to do with depth and panning positioning. Any advice on how far/near, left/right certain timbre's and sound frequencies should be?

Is there a "general rule of thumb" that I could follow? i.e. sub's should be mono, bass synths should only pan a certain amount, high frequencies like percussions can sit in the back?

I make trance music so it's been difficult balancing all the different layers together :/

Mixing/Mastering / So lost on Phasing... HELP
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:34:14 pm »
So I'm completely confused on phasing... What is phasing and how does it effect your production? Is there any reason to use phasing? I feel like phasing is something that only causes problems with your mix. I've tried using it to put my timbre in different locations in my sound field but it still feels "off".

Thanks!

WIPs / Modern Classical + Trance?
« on: February 22, 2016, 08:02:58 pm »
Hey guys, I've been listening to a lot of modern classical music like Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm so I decided to remix on of their songs, Near Light. This is just the breakdown so it's really short. Let me know what you think! Feedback is always welcomed here.

Mixing/Mastering / Bass Sub vs. Bass Synth
« on: January 27, 2016, 02:25:18 am »
Hey guys, so I'm a bit confused on how to properly include a Sub and a Bass Synth in the same track at the same time. Also, in regards to Bass Synths, what are your thoughts on it being wider than it should be? (aka, you hear it as it it's out on the sides of the song, rather than in the dead center)

Hey guys just want to get a thread going to condense motivational aspects of music into one word. I think this would help a lot of other producers understand different production perspectives and to mentally point out "key terminology" as we go along the musical process.

So without further todo, here are the rules:
1. If you had to describe music production (and all it consists of) with one word, what would it be?
2. Please elaborate on why you chose that word.

I'll go first!

Quantity
If I had to give one word that I believe is the best advice for music production it would have to be Quantity. Every day I hit obstacles that limit my production and creative process and every day I tell myself I don't know how to make it any better... yet. Understanding that even though I can't produce the sound and quality I imagine in my head right now, time and work will eventually pave the way. As long as I don't quit and continue to create more and more, my quality will increase, as well as my creative flow. Although quality is possibly the most important part of any song, you can't achieve quality unless you do the work to get there. "Find quality through quantity".

Sound Design / SUB BASS HELP! (C0-C1) OR (C1-C2)??
« on: January 20, 2016, 04:30:58 am »
Hey guys, I have a bit of a noobish question. Does your typical basic sin sub bass work better in the C0-C1 region or the higher octave of C1-C2?

I always find it frustrating when have of my sub notes are perfect/full, and the others are either too low (less than G0) or too high (greater than A1) to give you the 'sub' thickness.

Any advice on how to get a consistent sounding sub through different notes?

WIPs / Having emotion in my trance breakdown~~ Feedback please (:
« on: January 14, 2016, 12:34:36 am »
So I've been trying to recreate the emotion I feel when I listen to trance music. My emotions trigger all the way from the progressive culmination of timbre, to the breakdown of a song, to the minuscule details that bring a song to life. So for this instant, I'm focusing on the breakdown part of trance music. Basically I've been working on this for too long to the point it doesn't trigger any more emotion. I'm hoping it's just a "producer" problem and would love your comments and analysis of my song.

Thanks!
