WIPs / Tech House-ish WIP
« on: December 06, 2016, 04:32:15 pm »
Hey guys! Haven't posted on here in a bit due to a break in production to focus on other things. Anyways, I wanted to post this WIP I've had sitting around and have made minor tweaks to over the last few weeks. LMK what you think and how you feel it could be improved!

WIPs / Re: WIP (obviously) ... bass house-ish stuff

Not to familiar with the genre, checked a few tracks out now. However, listening to your track, mix is great, only thing i  feel needs some work is the bassline. It gets kinda repetitive and boring (compared to other tracks in this genre I've heard). maybe use a bouncier pattern.. not sure how to type what i am hearing lol

Switching up the bass is something I've been trying since I posted it....I wouldn't 100% say this is like other bass house tracks but it's the closest genre I could think of. And yeah typing sounds is impossible lol

I think your lfo might be out of sync, at some points it seems like its not doing a full cycle before repeating. Also I would try messing around with adding in new types of bass sounds and switching between the bass noise you have  and some new sounds, which could give this song some phrasing/verses. Mix sounds pretty clean, and I really like the weird background effects. Was that just a sample or did you use a synth?

The LFO feels like it gets out of sync when the note I'm using changes but I messed with it for so long, its the closest I could get it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong TBH :( Not sure which background effects you're referring to but its about half/half for synths vs. samples.

boys noize samples are fillers...song is empty but its early early on. you can basically ignore everything after the 1:00 mark.
just any suggestions on what to add or if the "wubs" sound weird to you at all. i've replayed this too many times and i'm unsure if it sounds off to me because it's off or because thats what happens when you hear the same thing a million times.

This is actually really good, especially for the first post

<3

I'm sure this is just my personal preference but I kind of expected the kick to thump a little more, but it feels like it's fighting whatever you have going on in the sub. If you wanted to add more elements, maybe some sweeps or noise that builds a little tension, and perhaps crisp up the percussion a bit more. But Mat_Zo likes it so what do I know?!  ;D

i've spent soooo much time messing with the mix but you're right it could use more work, not just your preference.

Maybe in the break, you can have another part of the vocal sample playing, then right before you bring back the main section of the track you can play the "bring your body back" part again?

forsure possible. i have a rough draft of a tempo change on this for the second drop...going up to 170 and doing weird dubstep stuff. also considered taking the dnb route for drop #2

I would just scratch the VIP and make the idea you have there the second drop of the original. The original is a little repetitive and some variation could be good as to keep listeners interested. The VIP doesn't really differ too much from the original, so if you just combine them in to one track with different drops that would solve both problems at once!

Also, I would add some "glitter" to it. Small details that just happens once or twice in the whole track. It seems you're going for somewhat of a minimalist feel to the track so don't overdo it; just a little sound effect here and there to make it unique.

heh funny you mention it...i have a copy of it doing pretty much exactly what you had said. i thought the original could stand on its own although repetitive but you're probs right.
