Sound Design / Swinging Kick / Sub-bass in a Track
« on: February 04, 2016, 09:34:31 pm »
I have always been wondering how people achieve this "swing" effect on the simple kick. Is it the cleverly placed, really low bass line? Are these cleverly grouped kicks?

For an example, listen to the intro of this song, roughly at 0:00 - 0:40 (I am sure it is there later but hard to hear below all the other instruments.)

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Scarlett 2i4 /6i6 + Analog Synth
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:16:05 pm »
Has anyone had an experience of running an analog synth using Scarlett 2i4 or 6i6 audio interface? I can see that it has MIDI In and Out and so does my synth (Roland Juno 106, edition with built-in speakers). Would it be straight-forward to set up this synth as a MIDI instrument for my DAW? What are some things to beware? More importantly, how does one do it? Are both MIDI In and Out required for one instance of a synth? Or only one is used to connect to the audio interface? What happens if I have 2-3 analog synths? Should I be looking at some other audio interface?

Also, what audio interface are you using? How likely is it that I will hit a limit with Scarlett 2i4 in terms of its capacity? I have an acoustic guitar and an analog synth to record or use as instruments. I may also do a recording of vocals once in awhile. The main question is whether I should get 2i4 or 6i6 (only $20 difference but 6i6 needs a separate power supply, so it is not very portable).

R&A Graveyard / Music Labels and Promotion for Producers Section Needed
« on: January 10, 2016, 03:30:16 am »
I was trying to find a place to discuss some label-related questions. Perhaps we could get a section.

P.S. I can see a bunch of "promoters" descending on that forum, so it may or may not be a good idea to get one.

I have only heard of quarter notes but never used them. In fact, how would one even go about doing a scale in those? Do we essentially have 24 notes in the "chromatic" quarter note scale? Is it as simple as having some tones where there werent any before or does the harmony become doubly complicated?
