Mixing/Mastering / Re: Where We Belong (Zomboy Remix), how did he do it?
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:16:20 am »
This has been my go-to reference track since it came out in February 2014, it's a near perfect mixdown.

My friend and I have a theory that he has 2 mastering chains working together. One for just the kick and snare and one for the rest of the track. He'll completely sausage the entire track (like all the synths, basses, sub and effects) and then  master the kick and snare separately.

Then it's just a matter of sidechaining the kick and snare to everything else in the track or cutting small gaps in the track so he can slot the kick and snare in and have absolute silence to minimise clipping, allowing him to push his master even further whilst retaining those solid transients. Then he might add an extra limiter or maximiser to bring it up a little further if he left a few db of headroom after he individually mastered the drums and the rest of the track separately.

I'm not sure if that's what he does, but it makes sense and in theory should work, it's just very long winded lol.

Fancy seeing you here Oliverse ;)

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Splice Sounds thread

Who else is using this beauty of a service?

A lot of the sounds are beautifully processed and mixed. I've found a lot of unique samples.

The great thing is you can pick out samples individually from a huge range of sample packs, make's for some unique organic tunes.

Bump for thread visibility.

thanks guys, it's a really depressing feeling as if you're completely useless. Borderline depression

One day I feel like i'm on top of the world writing hooks left right and centre and the next I can't even sustain a simple chord progression without giving up.

I'm not even interested in LISTENING to music as well, I just feel so burned. Is it best to just ignore it and not produce for a while all together?

It's a shitty form of writers block, how do you deal with it?

And this is a bit yucky but it's a good idea to clean your ears often.

If you're serious about production you're going to need one eventually.

I feel like this is better suited for the Sound Design board.

Saturation and Distortion isn't something the average producer gets to learn as opposed to a compressor or EQ. Here's a nice crash course.

Enjoy.

Not a bad seminar, made be think twice about the power of saturation.

Mine is pretty basic compared to the guys above me but here goes.

I used to mix with the bluetooth speakers on the right of the HS8s. Second image is a size comparison.
Acoustic treatment is next. :)

edit: images are gigantic. http://imgur.com/a/KquuO better version
edit 2:

Specs:
- Yamaha HS8s
- Hackintosh (i7, 16gb ram)
- Alesis V49 (Do not buy).

Bruh those monitors look like giant iPods.

Right now, I currently own a pair of AKG k240 and a recently purchased ATM m50. I really do like producing using the m50s, but I wonder if getting a pair of monitors would be beneficial for me in the long run. I was looking at the Rokit 8s, but I hear they end to exaggerate the low end a bit too much. In addition, I heard producers like Juventa can produce using only headphones and can still achieve a really good mixdown. Any thoughts?

Have you tried looking at Yamaha HS7/HS8s? I went from M50s to HS8s and believe me there is a night and day difference.

i7 2600k, 16gb ram and a few SSDs and HDDS.

It's a Hackintosh. Pretty great but I could use a beefier CPU. Looking to pick up a laptop.

Ableton has transposition functions built in. The new tuner that came with 9.2 combined with transposition tells me exactly what key a sound will be in :)
