Finished Tracks / Re: Emod - Heartcut [2005ish Progressive Trance]

It actually reminded me a little of DJ Scot Project stuff and yes, PvD.  I do love the sine patches on synths, just add delay and reverb and they sound great - as does this.  PPK have kind of owned it though!  It's good though, the pace is kept and despite it being a very compressed sound, it's not over compressed and doesn't put the track into the kind of pumping when people over compress the master bus.

PPK is the most prominent example of sine waves in trance tracks (I believe they were the first ones too), however sine waves are a much used tool in the later years as well (for example Kenneth Thomas' and Elevation's Preen), and as such I have incorporated them in my track. Nevertheless I wanted to thank you for your feedback, especially regarding the compression :)

Sounds fantastic musically. Something about the mix down that sounds a bit hollow but I suspect it's because it's not mastered, or it's low bitrate, or both.

The sine lead reminds me of PPK-Resurrection :) Nice touch!

Just my personal opinion here: I think the intro (first 30 seconds) could be improved. It sounds a bit lacking, however once your bass comes in around 30-31 seconds, it sounds pretty good and gives a very nostalgic feeling!

The way the sine lead comes in around 0:46 seconds or so is very haunting and mysterious - I love it!

Around 2:15 when you start to transition into the breakdown, it sounds kind of empty, like you weren't sure how to get to the breakdown, but had to have something. It's not bad though!

2:33 - Now this is what I'm talking about. I would love to hear this part at a summer's dusk with a cool breeze blowing at me! :) A great, simple melody. Simple is good here. So many tracks out there over-complicate what a melody can be and that takes kind of ruins the feeling, but this is just perfect, in my opinion.

I think your climax sounds great, but I think both the leads should be louder. The rest of the mixdown seems to almost drown them out. I can hear them on headphones, but I think if I played them on loudspeakers, I may not be able to hear them as clear.

Overall, I think you've really hit the nail on the head for a mid-2000s style progressive trance track. 2004-2006 were great years for this style (Electronic Elements and mid 2000s era Enhanced Progressive) and I think it fits in very well. The early to mid 2000s are my time period of choice for all things trance/progressive and this really took me back. Thank you for that.

Would love to have a high quality download of the finished product!

Thank you so much for your detailed review! I will make sure to send you a high quality download, once all the pending changes have applied :)

Great track, the lead-in from 2:30 brought almost some tears in my eyes. This track reminds me of the time when Sensation White was actually a thing. There is a high "clack" sound in the bass (@ 0:18) that I don't approve, but I'll think that's personal. It sound very Professional thought! You're producing in the wrong era dude. You would be famous back then  :D

Keep up the good work  8)

That is so humbing to hear! I am so glad you and the other people are responding to it so well, I just think it wouldn't be all too bad if we revived the old trance sound, I am sure a lot of today's younger trance listeners (I am 16 myself) would really respond to it well.

Is that a reversed kick before the first kick comes in @ 0:16? Nice!!

The song pumps as trance should pump. I don't know if it's side chaining I'm hearing but I like it that way. Some kind of Paul Van Dyk peak time track.

The gated piano reverb is fantastic, I can hear that you have thought out this song so well. And after that break is the hands in the air moment, right as expected.

Decent mix, nice stereo spreading, this song shouldn't be overlooked by lovers of this genre!

Thanks! Yes, the reversed kick is a little gimmick I added :) I really appreciate the Paul Van Dyk comparison, and I am really proud of that piano as well. I am really glad you like it! :)

Thank you all so much for your amazing feedback! It really helps a lot!!

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback x3 I am really glad the older trance style is appreciated by so many!

pretty good stuff! i think it sounds a little to harsh to me, in the busier parts of the song the high hats are squashed, not much definition to them. Love the sound set you've come up with though, and great song progression!

I believe I will redo the hi-hats completely. I am not very satisfied with them, to be honest.

Sounds great. One thing I will say is bring up the lead during the drop its extremely catchy it will sound better if it is more apparent then the bass/pad you have.
Thanks for your suggestion, I have two leads. The sine lead, and a more trancy pluck that plays around the sine lead. I could try having that woven constellation stick more out.

This is kind of the stuff that electronic elements was releasing about 2005ish. Classic sine lead everything included :)
I just wanted to bring back the old style. And i hope i did it well! :>
What do you guys think?

The song idea is great. I like the melody... If you finish the song, it would be great.
By the way, I think the kick needs more bass!

Thank you! I have been considering swapping the kick as well (though that is really bad in an already-started production imo). I might layer it with another kick or something too.

Wow, I was suprised because a lot of songs that are posted on forums are bad, but this is very much to my liking and wouldn't be surprised if I saw it on a label. :)

Thank you! That is indeed a really nice thing to hear :)

This has to be one of the most beautiful and stunning remixes I have ever heard. It is a beautiful blend of different genres, and the melodies are just excellent.

This sounds really good. I love the chord progression you were using, and the percussions are really well made, as well. I would have the bass play more than just simultaneously to the lead chords, though.

This is something I made that reminded myself of walking alone in the streets by nighttime. Genre I literally do not know, a mixture of Tech House and Progressive House? x)
