Yeah, he is. He used to use them a lot in his older songs (ex: Rift)

Michael Trewartha's Instagram is here:

https://www.instagram.com/michaeltrewartha/

He used to produce under the alias "SIRIS" but deleted all traces there. He has more of those LA rooftop pics. Fun fact: he used to work at Menchies ice cream when he was 18 :)

He is indeed Singularity's brother, and took some official photos of him as well back in the day, and he takes similar photos of himself:

He also uses Ableton like Grey does! https://www.instagram.com/p/c0UNTlIYFj/?taken-by=michaeltrewartha

He made a behind the scenes video of that Grey photoshoot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-81AEWuC3M8

Proof that he's Singularity's brother is also here with a childhood pic of he and Kyle posted on his Instagram:

Meh I guess I'm going a bit far but all this is public info, I'm just connecting a few dots here

Not Zedd and Skrillex. Grey sent the Where Are U Now remix to Skrillex, who sent it to Zedd, who became a fan.

Very sure it's Singularity. I've done some research, and Singularity's music has a lot of subtle sounds in there that sound identical to some of Grey's sounds, especially the guitars, hats, and some bass patches especially in the Same Old Love remix. Both live in LA, Singularity reposts all the Grey stuff, and some guy on Reddit mentioned that he's friends with half of Grey, and that this person is an alumnus at Insomniac's EDC Discovery project, which Singularity also happens to be a part of. GetYourSnackOn co-owns Singular Sounds with Singularity, and his Twitter account (@tnorris) is full of Grey reposts. GetYourSnackOn makes frighteningly accurate remakes of EDM songs, and that future bass sample pack (which I have) contains a synth preset that was used in the Papercut remix

Sound Design / Re: The "How do I make this sound?" thread
« on: January 07, 2016, 07:34:48 am »
I treat almost all production forums like an /r/explainlikeimfive thread since I'm basically the biggest newbie you can find. I'm good at melodies and composition but my mixing/mastering skill is basically nonexistent, I don't even know all of the terminology, and when it comes to sound design I basically go open Massive, pick a random preset, modify a few knobs to get a cooler sound and then go save the patch. I really need help on how to improve past this.

For now, in regards to this thread, how do I make the synth in the drop of Grey's "Where Are U Now" remix? I know there is some percussion going on in the back to get that "hiss" effect but for the synth itself, I'm looking to make it in Massive.

I'd refer to the Flume synth thread someone started. They both have the automated attack element so you might get some tips there.

Thanks! I'll go check that out

Grey. Definitely Grey. They're an anonymous LA-based duo and my favorite EDM act right now, and they've released five absolutely stellar remixes, known for their stunning guitar solos and uniqueness in sound design and percussion. They're now getting support from Zedd since he's a fan, and not only did they get to do an official remix of "Papercut", but also got signed to Interscope Records! My favorite remix of theirs is of Kaskade's "Disarm You".
