It's just hilarious with all the people complaining about Logic lately. But I'm surprised there's so few Cubase users.

Deadmau5 to start producing at all, RAC to start making more instrumental stuff.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: What is your DAW template?

AOM invisible limiter, Ableton's EQ with HP filter on sides (around 150 hz), SPAN, Spectrum, AOM Stereo Images. Most of this are for visualisation and control.

Every new track is coming with OTT, 3-band EQ with HPF and compressor.

Default template includes 1 track with Drums Rack(empty), Operator with sub bass, Omnisphere with 8 attached tracks, default simpler's grand piano(just for messing around), Sylenth1 and audio track for guitar. Most of this tracks are just to have something to get started with.

As I saw in some video, you need to make it pereodic. Every day, every 3 days, every week - every way is good. It's still better to spend on any activity 1 hour a day than spend all day of, say, saturday. And producing is so complex you can always find something to do even if you're not inspirated. Drums/synths/learning theory/mixing etc.

I feel myself a bit more confident since I've started to play electric guitar and use my midi as a piano. If you can get yourself any instrument - you should do it. Works pretty well for inspiration and it's something you can use in production.

Sound Design / Re: Virus Ti Wavetables for Serum

Wow, thanks. As I've seen Serum is a nice way to replace virus. Except that hardware syhtns don't need CPU power to make it on 100%  :(

Btw it seems like sound of the rain is most populard kind of thing :D And all kinds of city noises on the 2nd place.

As for using foley, I like following a tip I saw from deadmau5 a while back. Here's the Reddit thread discussing the interview: https://www.reddit.com/r/edmproduction/comments/2bk29v/deadmau5s_gritty_compression_technique_what/?
And thanks for that. Such a good idea to not use white noise as a filler, but sound of.. wind? Nature? This sort of stuff. It should be a good way to make tracks feel less "electric".

Field recordings is the great way to fill the space in track. Someties it could be a begging, something, that's giving you a theme/idead for a track. Some use it as something in the background or barely noticable at all, other like it to be really loud and obvious. It's up to you, I guess. For me that was only 1 time I actually properly used for kinda rainy song. Even used a sound of thunder as hit/whoosh effect. And would love to get myself a portable recorded :\

Sound Design / Re: Pad Design Thread

The hardest thing for me is how to cut pad by LP filter but still have it kinda "airy', with some presence. Should it be acomplished by layering or EQ or something else?
