really gorgeous song! i think maybe what vermont meant was (this is just my opinion) that the claps seem to be getting drowned out? I actually think the kick is a little overpowering, but I'm not sure if it's my headphones.

anyway, this is super legit though :) looking forward to hearing more!

So this started out as a joke with a really ridiculous voice recording we took of a friend when she was sick... but I decided to actually try to make a real track out of it despite the terribad recording quality. Did it in about 5-6 hours. Feedback (positive and negative) appreciated!

I second the comment above on the piano. I don't think you should change it though! I think the piano fits really well, it just needs to be a bit brighter. Maybe try adding a higher octave layer of piano? Or it could be a matter of brightening the sound itself.

Take my advice with a HUGE grain of salt also since I'm not exactly a professional producer haha, but from my experience as a listener I kind of feel like the drums are too loud but not powerful enough, if that makes sense. Feels like the drums are a lot more prominent than the lead, but the actual sound of the drums, especially the kick, is a little weak. I'd maybe experiment with bringing the lead during the drop more to the forefront but then tweaking that kick to be a harder sound that just cuts through.

All that said, I think this is a really cool song so I'm excited to hear how it turns out :)

definitely finish this yo, those plucks are no joke.

haha maybe the wrong place to ask for this but do you have any tips on how you get them to sound so clean and full? my plucks always come out sounding a lot thinner and weaker than that.

I'm definitely no expert producer haha but personally I feel like the song is pretty good but the kick drum doesn't feel right. Somehow it sounds kind of flat, or one dimensional, compared to what I was expecting to hear at that point in the song.

Not too sure what the answer is though. Maybe a little more punch and some light reverb? I don't know. Will defer to someone more experienced :)

Nice song though!

Hey everyone :)

First post here! I've been listening back on some of my projects lately and wondering why so many of them sound so flat and simplistic compared to professional quality stuff and I've realized that (among many other things), my tracks are pretty heavily lacking in the subtle details in the background. I've got a few soundpacks from Vengeance and so-forth with sweeps, crashes and such that I pull from for my tracks but in general most of them end up sounding kind of generic and out-of-place.

I don't have a good handle on how to engineer those sorts of sounds myself other than just your super basic white noise sweeps.

So my question I guess is...what do you all use for atmospheric effects? Do you create your own? Do you buy samples and then edit? Are there good tutorial resources for this somewhere? Most of the tutorials that I've found on production seem to focus on more forward elements like writing leads, creating pads, basslines, drums, etc. I've had trouble finding good info on essentially building tension and adding depth via effects.

Thanks!
