your levels are a little off but the arrangement is good. the vocals need to come up a fair bit, and the piano and musicbox need to come down. strings/pads should be louder as well. kick and clap are both extremely quiet, and you should sidechain most of your mix to the kick. at 1:43 i think you should introduce some chord plucks and a pluck playing the piano melody you had earlier and build it up to a big half-time prog-house-esque thing.

(also, question, how did you get the drums as punchy as they are? it sounds like some of them are clipped but i'm honestly really not great at drums, so i'm curious.)

all of my drums are clipped to hell. i use this thing, it's free http://static.kvraudio.com/i/b/ss_tsclip.png

kick has too much mid/treble. take a high shelf eq and pull down everything above 400hz a few db, and maybe bring the kick itself down a db or two as well. i don't hear a snare anywhere? there's a clapish thing near the start but it's almost too quiet to hear. the bit at 1:30 needs more going on. like some chords or a bass or both.

the drop sounds really distant bc you have a ton of white noise and it's masking everything else. reel that in. other than that it seems like a pretty typical steve aoki type track, albeit with more bass. keep it, just A/B it to something similar and work on tightening the mixdown.

if you use FL studio, there's a noise gate in fruity limiter that looks like this http://i.imgur.com/b7Ymg7J.png. it just reduces the signal to 0 with the release time once it falls under a certain threshold. but that's needlessly complex, i mostly just meant take a volume envelope and do one of these http://i.imgur.com/ZPefNjm.png

most of the synths are too dry and too bright, pull down the 5-10khz on them and give 'em all a little bit of reverb. kick is too quiet and shakers/claps/hats are too loud. the uh. tribal drums or whatever they are. are too ringy. try to volume envelope them to be short and punchy so they don't take up unnecessary space in the mix. they're also very muddy and competing with the kick, lower their <300hz content a bunch.

the mid bass sounds a little too uh. electro-ey? for the track. it has a lot of high-mid that's masking the chords really badly. i would suggest replacing it with a simple saw w/ a bit of eq > distortion. otherwise just do some cutting. track in general seems to have not enough low end and too much midrange. if you have a sub bass (i can't really tell) turn it up, and turn the low end on the kick up a lot. your chords are also tuned really low.. i would either add some higher voices to them or just pitch them up an octave. high pass generously! definitely needs a harder sidechain too! catchy tune i hope you finish it  :)

the other day i tried to make an outro for another song and ended up kinda seat of the pants making this big evolving thing. since that session i haven't really edited it except for a few mix changes, and i'm kind of scared to bc it's so long lol. https://clyp.it/4v4za5ku.

first part is messed up trap stuff, second part is like melodic breaks, third part is synthwave. third part cuts off abruptly; i intend to add another 32 bars to it or so. also, the fundamental on the snare in part three is way too loud and i have since turned it down. the biggest things i'm unsure about are

  • how long part two is
  • how the tempo change is integrated between the second and third part (is the change too fast, or too slow?)
  • if the transition between part two and three has enough going on sonically
  • part two's mixdown

i appreciate any and all help! thank you!

imo you need more variation. the wub you use on the first beat of the drop is good! i want to hear it every two bars! and besides that ur drop is only one sound. it's a good sound, but more fills or switching up the patch for a slightly altered one would be better. also, i think the main bass patch you have is a little too distorted. the hi-hat in the drop could be tighter too. gate it a little, you want something short and crisp for bass house.
