Also what kinds of chords that are used in future bass?

In the Ekali remix you posted, I'm hearing... Well, it feels to me like it's in the key of D minor. Around the 1:25 mark, I start hearing a progression based on jazzed-up versions of chords like Bb, Gmin and Dmin.

Jazzed up means... maybe there are 7ths in there? Definitely suspended 2nds: if you're in Dmin and you play the Gmin chord, but you add in a 2nd (play an A over your Gmin), you get this beautiful rich, ambiguous, melancholy tension... in fact you get a semitone dischord (the A vs the Bb in the Gmin chord). But... if you're heading towards a Dmin chord... well, that Dmin contains an A note. So... there's a dischord in the Gmin sus2, that suggests the Dmin.

One of my favourite things ever (which I got from listening to music like the original Bladerunner score by Vangelis) is... imagine you play a D note for the bass. That says to the listener "I'm currently playing a Dmin chord". BUT over the top of it, you play an Amin chord. Well... what are you doing at that moment? Are you playing an Amin chord with an extra D (Amin sus4)? Or, are you playing a whacked-out Dmin chord, with a minor 7th AND an extra E? Either way, it brings this rich, bluesy, jazzy, soulful, melancholy vibe.

So yeh. I got carried away there in my 1st post but Ekali seems to be adding 2nds, 7ths and 4ths to chords to make them express doubt, vulnerability, human moral weakness, I'll get my coat.

10/10 Reply, thanks man!

I'd check this out before reading that. I haven't read through the book, but I remember the pictures on the free version being all blurry and most example patches not included. The synths he uses are also not super conventional and not free either, with the demo's only lasting like 15 minutes or something.
Synth Secrets is aimed a biiiit more at using analog stuff, but only a bit. Most if not all of the concepts the series goes over can be applied to digital synths as well. 1st half is mostly conceptual stuff and explanations, the second half goes into synthesizing mostly real world instrument sounds. Highly recommended, goes over almost everything you need to know from the ground up, and it's free!

True, Synth Secrets takes a bit more time to understand if you're used to software synthsizers, but it's worth it though!
Their thought process behind synthesis is very fascinating to read as well.

For the song Cut the Kid, I think he had a friend record a bunch of slaps for him  :)

Yeah he mentioned that the bass slide in Finally was recorded for him by a friend as well.
Might be the same guy :)

Resampled violins into something that sounds sorta like a dog barking.
Sadly i have no memory of how i did it, but i think i routed the violins through some reverb into a vocoder.

cool, i have a friend in aarhus! going to visit in june :)

i like the arrangement and the versatility, the last "drop" caught me by suprise!

Thanks a ton! I kinda figured out how to do the "trap horn" sound while making this track, so i wanted to do something really heavy as the last drop.

By the way, you should hit me up when you're in Aarhus, we could meet up or something :)

Weird panning at 2:33 second drop, you should keep things symetrical

Hmm I don't hear it? I'm usually trying to keep things symmetrical though, but thanks i'll keep it in mind!

Got some nice textures here ! Good stuff, maybe a little bit more climax in my opinion, but really well produced.

 :P

Thank you! It's the first time i've done mastering on my track, so i'm really happy that you like it!

I really like this, it sounds very organic!

Thanks! I sampled a lot of organic instruments and played them through Ableton's Simpler to get some more unique sounds.

Future bass is my specialty :) I'd be happy to help if you have any specific questions!

Do you know anything about doing the huge supersaw-esque leads in tracks like

Also what kinds of chords that are used in future bass?
Thanks!

Sound Design / Re: The Kick Designing Thread: Click, Punch, Thump!
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:13:54 am »
I learned to do kick synthesis yesterday. I use Serum and some basic sinewaves + a bit (read: a lot) of distortion/saturation. I'm currently going for a Sagan/Losco style trap sound so being able to play different notes with my kick/808 helps a lot.

Serum has a very nice wavetable called Analog_BD_Sin, which is basically sinewaves with a bit of harmonic colouring. I modulate the pitch of this oscillator with one of the LFO's (so i can lock it to the tracks tempo) to get that sweet punch and thump, and then i add a noise oscillator and modulate it in the same fashion to get some click if i'm feeling frisky.

I made this for an entry exam for Frontsession in Aarhus.
They liked it, but they accidentally examined me half a year to early so w/e.
I hope you like it!

Operator and Serum.

I like how quickly and simply you can sculpt sounds in operator, and if you need to go deeper serum does most things.
