So, I know it's been ages, but that track I put in this WIP is now done! You can have a listen to it here if you'd like:
But yes, just wanted to say thanks for the advice you all gave me, it really did help out a lot so.. Thanks :)

Sound Design / Re: Cormak - Meraki LFO Sound

This is pretty much a complete guess, but it might have been done with something like dblue glitch? Perhaps the gater effect? It would make sense since a lot of the other elements of that chorus seem to have dblue glitch effects too (like tapestop and perhaps shuffler too). If you want a similar-ish effect, definitely try it out

A really nice thing to do is to use a bandsplitter to add distortion/reverb to the 3k-7k range. Allows for some really full-sounding top-ends without ruining the crispness of the basses

Well.. A while back I tried remixing Infinitum just for fun, and I came up with this as a remake for that intro bit:

It's a bit too tinny, and is nowhere near crushed enough, but hopefully you'll find it useful!

Basically, it's done with both sylenth and massive. In sylenth you have 2 saw oscillators with 8 voices each, also each with different amounts of stereo just to create a nice atmospheric effect. Apply a lowpass filter and set the cutoff to about 132-ish hz, and modulate the cutoff by an LFO at 1/16th. Also put the filter control's cutoff at about 90hz to make it all soft and nice.
From there, put on an arpeggiator make sure the mode is Chord and the velocity is Key. Then just make it timed at 1/16 and the gate at 100 and you're done. Add a little bit of eq and compression if you want to be fancy, but then that's basically it.

The Massive instance creates the plucks on top. So just set all the oscillators to saw waves, add 8 voices, some white noise, delay, reverb. All the usual supersaw stuff. The thing that makes them plucky is to add a scream filter with the cutoff modulated a bit by a saw wave LFO. Set the LFO's timing to 1/16th and you're done!

Sorry if all of the above made absolutely no sense. I'm pretty new with Sylenth, and I'm pretty bad when it comes to explaining stuff in general. So if you need clarification on something then ask away!

Stay awesome, Mush

Well.. A lot of awesome advice has been posted so far.. But may as well give it a go!

Basically, just never stop doing stuff. Need a fancier way of wording it, but basically just never stop working towards your goal. If you have a spare hour or two, make stuff! Just filling up the little gaps in your day with music making can make you improve so much faster.

Aside from that, also don't worry about trying to make your own style. Your own style will come just from making stuff that you like and combining it all in your own way. It just happens naturally, you don't need to force it

Ok, I've tried editing it all a bit. I added a bit more in the 6-ishkHz bit, as well as toning down the bass. I tried adding a background arp but I could get it to fit without sounding too cluttered.. But yeah, let me know if this is better or worse or anything!

On top of what Shew and JoshHart said, harder sidechain and an airy piano would make it loads better. Also for me, the low end seems a bit cluttered.. It may just be me, but try clearing up the low end with a bit of EQ and it should end up really good!

Ok, the Mord Fustang comparison is a pretty damn huge compliment. Glad you liked it! And yeah, my chord structure does need some work, but I think it turned out ok in this

Ok, from what you've all said I'm gonna go and add an accent to the chords, a background arp, and just sorta make things a bit nicer. I'll hopefully add an updated version here soon, but seriously thank you for the advice!

Mixing/Mastering / Re: I can't figure it out and it is frustrating.

Honestly.. The best thing to do is compare to a similar-ish professional track. I mean, the mix may sound good to you, but once you compare it to something professional, you start to realise exactly how your track can be improved.

Loving the intro/buildup. Only thing is that in the drop the bass synths don't hit as hard as I would've expected them to. Making them a bit louder and wider would probably help

So yeah, this is just a small thing I've been working on for a while.. It's really hard to come up with an intro/buildup for it though.. Just let me know what you think!
