I need a coffee and food around the studio lol

Same! I find that I work best with a cup of coffee or even an ice cold beer

You Might Like... / Oliver Winters
« on: August 28, 2016, 07:48:03 pm »
You may have heard his debut release on the new mau5trap we are friends ep. If you love techno, give him a listen. This guy reminds me of a mixture of Matt Lange and Stephan Bodzin.

This track is EASILY one of my favorites....Walking Heavy brings me to another dimension. Can't wait to hear what he has in store for us in the future.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Starting out
« on: July 25, 2016, 07:38:29 pm »
Whatever DAW you use, my advice is to LEARN TO USE THE STOCK PLUGINS. Too many people watch a tutorial that uses Sylenth or Massive and immediately assume they need it to sound good. Especially Sylenth. FL's stock plugins can do just about anything Sylenth can, but it forces you to mess around with them and (god forbid) learn what the controls do.

I can support this, I personally use Ableton because it looks very clean and seemed easiest to use. However it is all preference. My advice is to you is to look at DAW introduction tutorials online and then make you decision based on what seems easiest for you to learn. I would fool around with the stock plugins before getting into any other external plugins.

To be honest I mostly use the ableton stock plugins in my tracks because they can pretty much do what any other external plugin is capable of. Don't think you need expensive equipment or VST/plugins to make a great track.

So lately I've been listening to a lot of Drumcode. I was heavily inspired by Harvey McKay and wanted to make some techno similar to his style. Please leave some comments and let me know what you think.

P.S this is the first original piece of work I put on soundcloud or any other website :)

Could someone help me recreate this heavy sub? The name of the track says it all.

Main inspiration/influence: Green Velvet and Maceo Plex

When I was 17 I went to a festival with a group friends and was dragged to a techno/house stage for the first time ever (even though I was never into that genre). The music and the people around me gave off the best vibe and I felt like everyone around me experienced more than just music.  That is when I knew that I fell in love with techno and house music.

When I turned 19 I've got to see many of my favourite dj/producers in a clubbing atmosphere such as: green velvet, maceo plex, eric prydz (cirez d), gesaffelstein, deadmau5, jamie jones and more. What inspired me to  produce Green velvet, when I met him at a local club in Toronto (saw him 3 times), he was the most humbling guy I've ever met, and I can truly tell he cares about his fans. I also saw a deep passion for music within him, which got me thinking. Also Maceo plex is a huge inspiration to me as well because he creates music that have meaning and emotion within it. I also love that his music has no boundaries to them. They are truly original pieces of art.

here's a useful site for comparing frequency responses of headphones. personally i use sennheiser HD598's and i like them a lot, they're ~$150, had them for 3 years or so. heard good things about  audiotechnicas too tho.

I was thinking of buying those and I also found a good deal on amazon for them. But I heard that those are better for acoustic rather than electronic music. Not sure if that is true or why.

Hey guys, I've done a bit of research in choosing the right pair of headphones but now  I am stuck between the:
 Audio-Technica ATH-M50x;
 Audio-Technica ATH-M40x (is there a difference in audio?) ;

OR

 Sol Republic 1601-30 Master Tracks (heard mixed reviews)

 Or if anyone has any suggestions of headphones in the $130-200 range.

Anyone have a link to some free techno/tech house or even house sample packs? I could also use a sample pack with some soft or trippy vocal sounds if possible.

I don't have much of a good tech sample library so I really want to expand it.

Thanks.
