This is heavy and gives me a NEUS vibe, it would go off live. The intro is definitely intriguing too. Really cool track!

I've been producing for 10 months today and this is what I have to show for it. Any and all feedback is welcome! Thank you in advance for listening. Also, how would you categorize this? I'm stumped on what genre this is.

WIPs / Re: KLANG | Infinity | Do your ears a favor & listen LOUD ;)

Dude this is awesome! I really love the sound of the chord plucks during the verse and the dynamic contrast throughout the track. I really love the complexity in the parts immediately before the drops. The only part I'd change, and this is just personal taste, would be giving the supersaws on the drop some defining characteristic that separates them from standard supersaws. All of the frequency and level automation on them is dope though.

coolio :) I submitted one as well. Feel free and give it a listen. Best of luck to ya!!

I'm really enjoying your music! It's pretty similar to what I'm going for. I'm curious, how did you have your track posted on Wonderlust?

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Speker construction fashion over the years

While this doesn't necessarily answer your question, I believe this information is sort of relevant. Last week in my Physics of Sound and Music class my professor (who runs his own pro loudspeaker company) was discussing an issue in the industry. In reality, constructing a fantastic-sounding, flat speaker isn't that challenging (at least according to a man who does it all the time). The problem is companies will almost always compromise an amount of sound quality for aesthetics. This contributes to different brands having slightly altered sounds.
You also need to take into account your environment and room acoustics when you listened to these different speakers. If you aren't listening in the exact same setting and on speakers with the same dimension there's going to be some more variance.
Lastly, I know very little about speakers from different time periods but I'd assume speaker technology, consistent manufacturing, and general knowledge has just improved leading to cleaner mixes? Plus there's always audience preference. Perhaps speakers didn't have as prominent subwoofers in the 80's because there was very little music with emphasis on bass. Which would also tie into your "average speaker" theory because nobody would hear outside of a live setting in the first place.

Mixing/Mastering / Re: What Order Do You Mix?
« on: May 10, 2016, 05:37:39 pm »
I bring all my faders down to -INF. I really recommend mixing your kick & bass first. They are the backbone of your entire track; getting those two things squared away first is really important. After that, I mix in order of next importance.

I work really similarly. I often add my EQ, effects, and pan tracks during the arrangement/composition process and adjust levels appropriately either in the VST or with a utility. When the time comes for me to mix down I usually just double check all of my track have an EQ, there's sidechaining where appropriate, etc. Then I'll take everything to -Inf and typically pull up the drums and bass first, as mentioned. The only time something else will take precedence is if it's a very vocal-heavy song, in which case I will bring that up first. Then I'll mix the other elements by importance and intended prominence in the track. I'll also mix in order from the loudest section to the quietest/most sparse (i.e. drop -> intro).

I just submitted this to Illenium's remix competition. I don't expect to win but I'd love to share it and get some feedback! Thanks for listening, guys.

he used the violin from kontakt
he mentioned it from one of his interviews

Yeah, a friend of mine just got Kontakt and found a decent amount of Porter's sounds in there.

Sound Design / Re: Illenium 'Pluck-ish' Chord Sound?
« on: April 17, 2016, 11:25:02 pm »
That's definitely a Sylenth pluck. It's just a saw wave with short decay/release and no sustain. The pluck comes from a mod envelope placed on a lowpass filter, with similar adsr settings to your amp envelope!

I figured it out in Serum from this, thank you guys! I was definitely over-thinking it.

Sound Design / Illenium 'Pluck-ish' Chord Sound?
« on: April 17, 2016, 06:40:55 pm »
Hey guys, I've been struggling to make the sound for a couple of hours now and could really use some help. I think my issue is getting the right wavetable or sample source. Any help would be greatly appreciated! It starts at 0:28 and ends at 0:54.

So if this song reflects how you've been feeling then you've been feeling beautiful? Haha, but in all seriousness I really dig the drums/chord progression/unique sounds. The only recommendation I'd make is right around the 0:30-1:00 area it sounds a little muddy? It may just be the string samples you're using. Great work though! Emotional fuel creates the best songs.
