Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / MOTU Track 16 Interface?
« on: September 21, 2017, 06:54:13 am »
Hey guys, long time no write.

Currently I have an Appogee duet, 2 inputs, 2 outputs. Simple stuff. Firstly, it's too small now that I've expanded my setup, and secondly I keep experiencing tons of bugs and crashes, and I am generally not pleased with it.

In my search for a new one, so far I've come across this interface http://motu.com/products/motuaudio/track16
The MOTU Track 16. 6 inputs, meaning 4 for me, and 2 for jamming out with friends. + 4 outpus to experiment more with 4.0! :D

Just wondering if any of you have any experiencewith this interface, or, have similar suggestions considering I/O in about the same price range? :)
Steinberg was also a candidate at some point, but I like the style of MOTU, though I've never heard of this brand before.

Thank you!

So my mind suddenly decided to make this track for no apparent reason.
I played the ukulele, and sang something on top, and just chopped it up. What do you think? Is it to messy? I wonder if the last ukulele-funky-chords are not sitting well enough in the mix, but I'm clueless to what I should do.
I'm also a bit confused as which genre this is... Any ideas? :)

(Random: I tried to put the private link in a soundcloud player, but it didn't work. Which link do I have to copy to get the cool SC-player?)

Arktopolis: That sounds quite cool. :D I'll dive into it later today.

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Adding harmony (voices) on my own voice
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:28:54 am »
So, I really love arranging a lot of voices for my voice on my tracks when composing, but I'm finding this to be more of a problem now that I am exploring the live aspect of Ableton Live. I really want to perform all my choice parts without having to loop a long phrase 7 times, and also risking a lot. I know you can buy pedals that do this somehow (TC Helicon among others), but I can't seem to figure out how to add voices on my own voice just using Ableton. If the only solution is to buy a pedal I have to figure something else out..

If any of you visited Loop 2016 in Berlin and saw the girl performing with the gloves, that is EXACTLY what I want to do!
But if you were some place else, watch this video to get an idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niwICkj31HI

Edit: Oh, hold on! Is it just a vocoder??!

Should it be a large condenser mic? Do you have any recommendations? :)

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Record label question!!!! please help
« on: June 02, 2016, 09:53:25 pm »
Personally I have used spinnup.com up till now (think I'm going to switch to indigoboom.com though) to release my own music on Spotify, iTunes etc. And Bandcamp. And Soundcloud... I don't get any promotion or cover art, I have to do all this myself of course, but I also get most of the money, the little there is to earn. Maybe I will reconsider the whole record label thing whenever I decide to make physical copies, but as for now, I am totally able to do all of this my self. And I like it a bit, having full control over what product I am selling. :)

Finished Tracks / Re: Dreamy Clouds of Glass | Melodic Glitch/IDM?

Tanks guys. I'll just have to try. The reason I ask is that it costs about 750€ to rent the place for a day. But the last time I was there I payed 5€ to get in. So if I can be really quick, I may be able to do it on a visitors day. There were extremely few people there. :P and I'll be sure to ask NRK. :D

I don't quite know where to post this...

I wan't to record my own vocals for a track that I'm working on for my album, and I found the perfect place in a huge glass building covering ruins of an old dome here in Hamar, Norway! The building is formed like a huge triangle, and have these ruins of stone sticking up here and there (http://www.hedmarksmuseet.no/Portals/59/Bilder/Historikk/Hamardomen-3418-11.jpg). As you may or may not understand, the reverberation in this building is enormous beautiful and perfect for the track.

The questions:
How and where do I strategically place the mic(s) - in the middle, on one of the sides, agains a wall, near/far from the rocks?
Should I use two microphones - one near the source (me), and one a bit further away capturing most of the reverb?
If I have one mic, how far should I stand from the mic to capture both the dry and wet voice in a balanced way?
I own a Shure SM7B. Should I borrow a different mic for this with a different polar pattern for instance?

Suggestions / Acoustics, physics, mathematics...
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:23:58 pm »
Producing is not only about recording MIDI and then mixing and mastering it. There's a whole world out there with different challenges considering acoustics, physics and mathematics. i.e. Where would be the ideal spot to place a mic when recording a dog bark in a circular space made of wood? Should the dog be facing left?

Maybe a bit too obscure? :)

Finished Tracks / Dreamy Clouds of Glass | Melodic Glitch/IDM?
« on: January 24, 2016, 09:25:19 pm »
I'm having a little trouble deciding which genre my music is. So far I've come up with melodic glitch, and some say it's IDM.
Currently I'm working on an album, and like everyone else I want it to sound as amazing as it can be, so all feedback will be considered. :)

I'm not so active, yet, but add curioustinmusic if you want to occasionally see my gear in action or hear a few seconds of Ableton-projects. :)
