I've spent so much time in becoming a good producer that I haven't really taken the time to think about how I should market my music.

Thanks for the comments as well guys, I'll take them into account also.

It's quite bizarre. The hi hats are almost completely panned to one speaker, and they're too loud.

The bass hook you've got is also too loud and kind of distorted? At speakers half way my entire room shakes. 30 seconds of the song is too bland and takes too long to progress, or doesn't really have enough elements in it to keep it interesting.

The piano/mallet around 1 minute doesn't really flow into the start of the song, and i just generally dont feel like the two themes blended together well at all towards the end of the song.

At 1 minute there's just too much going on, the amount of notes the glockenspiel or piano is playing is just trying to compete with the bass hook and the vocal slice.

I've always said this, if you're going to have an aggressive sound, you can't be playing other aggressive sounds at the same time - if you're going to, you really have to know what you're doing.

I found some parts of the glockenspiel-thingo kinda cool though, where you played a bunch of notes real fast. I actually found that pretty interesting,

good luck!

vocal slices are on of those things that sound so good, people often get trigger happy and just saturate their whole song in them.

You probably should take it easy with the vocal slices around 23 seconds, so you can establish the beat of the track. then bring the vocals back into the beat so you can create that nice progressive feel to the track.

hi hats are a little loud. a common issue with beginners is making the hats too loud. they should be subtle. (this could just be a taste thing though, this seems like a more 2000's housey kinda genre).

also maybe consider incorporating some white noise sweeps to help the direction of the song wherever it goes.

The whole beat with the down pitched vocal also kind of gets repetitive. you gotta add some melodies or new direction earlier on.

I appreciate you're trying something new though. But in general, i feel like the downpitched male vocal doesnt really suit the track. I dunno. just sounds kind of awkward.

good luck!

I know how hard it is to learn, I'm always willing to help dude :)

I'll try my best to keep my ego aside and explain things as simply as possible as well.

I know how it feels. compression was always this thing that no matter how hard I tried - the way people explained it never made sense to me. So i try to keep it simple for others.

Other tips I would recommend is putting a lot of your effort into getting good at EQing. Compression, stereo enhancement and all that bullshit is important by all means - but eqing is absolutely paramount to a good mix. Nothing will f*ck up your mix more than too many frequencies playing at the same time. :P

it takes time, good luck

compression is basically making certain parts of a sound quieter, and other parts louder.

The majority of the loudness from a kick (its decibel output) comes from it's bass (the thump of the kick). if you increase or decrease the volume of a kick, you're equally increasing/decreasing the loudness of both the transient (the high end, slappy/punchy part of the kick) and the low end, thumpy part of the kick.

But what if you could increase the snappy, punchy part and not the lower part?

Compression is just a fancy term used to describe very fast volume automation. That's what compression is used for. To create the ILLUSION that something sounds louder than it actually is. You're reducing the volume distance between the snap and the thud in the kick.

So in effect, you're 'averaging out' the overall volume of the kick, So its more consistent - and hits harder (without increasing its overall DB output!)

I'd recommend watching tutorials on this. What DAW do you use?

i feel like the kick could be a little bit louder relative to the bass. Its there for sure, but lacks that punch you get from a kick.

the chorus around 2:20 isn't terrible, but none of the synths are really pronounced at all. It just sounds rather confusing so to speak. You really gotta learn to balance your sounds so that they all have their place in the mix.
If you have too many 'in your face' sounds playing at the same time then it just gets squashed together and doesn't sound good.

remember less is more. good luck!

snare too loud relative to the kick

kick is just too quiet for the whole mix. the kick should be the loudest element on your track but it gets lost under everything.

Learn how to properly eq and compress your kick.

your composition skills are actually decent, the melodies and stuff are kinda cool man

Your track could also use some white noise upsweeps and downsweeps to add to the atmosphere

good luck.

it could also be that your lead has transient peaks that are really piercing and need to be flattened so that the lead
can have the desired volume without killing your ears. It could be those transient peaks that are irritating you

EQing is also a big factor. EQing is almost always the answer to every issue when it comes to mixing. never underestimate it.

a lot of times a lead just doesnt have enough white noise to fill the mix up, and it thus actually becomes really bare
and obnoxious

> hi hats too loud, they should be subtle
>your intro chords are clashing with your kick, make sure you high pass it. In other words, the low frequencies of your chords are clashing with the low freq's of the kick and thus the kick sounds really flat. Everything in your song should have its designated space in the mix. Google/Youtube 'High pass EQing'

>incorporate more white noise sweeps to build suspense
>the break at around 2minutes almost sounds out of key? gotta work on the flow here.
>bassline 2:30 sounds out of key
>the two instrumentals you've combined at 3 minutes are in completely different keys and dont match at all
>the general structure of your track isn't engaging, i suggest listening to other songs and seeing how the most engaging ones are structured.
>track is too long

If you want my honest opinion, you need to pick up a musical instrument like guitar or piano. Your ear is really untrained if you can't hear a lot of the obvious note clashes in this track, still produce - but put more time into learning an instrument and i guarantee you will improve exponentially.

good luck.
