I'm feeling a little bit like a phony, and I'm wondering if I'm taking credit for something erroneously, or if this is normal.
I'm working on the production of a song. I wrote the song, then found live musicians. We rehearsed it together. I booked studio time with an engineer. We recorded the rhythm section. Then we did some overdubs with the guitar. I came back and tracked vocals, and now I'm working on ornaments and finishing touches.
The issue/question is... did I really produce it? Because the arrangement is mine and the decisions about what should be doubled and where, and where to add an EQ filter, and where to use sidechain and how much, and etc were all my decisions. But I didn't physically sit at the computer -- the engineer where I was renting the studio did. Like I'd tell him to do stuff, and I'd sit and watch and he'd do it.
And so I'm feeling like... is this normal? Did I really produce it if I didn't hit the buttons?
