I think it's a solid track (I'm assuming it's not completed yet). I think in the first section of the track, some sort of melody to accompany the main pads/synths would be nice. Other than that I think it's super solid. Love the atmosphere and vibe you have going.

Here is the most recent lofi track I've made. It's a deviation from the regular stuff that I do (more of Porter Robinson-esque EDM) and I really like how this one came out. Sample is from an anime I was watching at the time ( let's see if anyone can guess it :P ). Hope y'all enjoy it!

check your play back speed on your car.

You could of recorded it at a slower tempo in relation to your car's playback speed. That would create a speed up, thus an increase in pitch.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if theres a way to check playback speed in my car (though admittedly I'm still very new to this stuff :P)

I noticed on the cassette deck that there is a button for normal dubbing speed and high speed dubbing. Would that have anything to do with it?

that might have something to do with it.

Try re recording one tune on your deck, and check the play back speed in your car.

One other option is to do a bit of research on the equipment your car uses to get a more specific answer that might save you some time and or money.

BUT, record at the different speed that gave you the problem in the first place and play it back on your car to see if it works.

it's like the difference between a 33rpm record and 45rpm record. The playback speed has to match the recorded speed. other wise you're playing UK jungle from the 90's.....

Thanks for all the replies. The only thing is that I'm pretty sure the dubbing speed is at normal since the light that would indicate it being on high speed dubbing isn't lit. Pressing the button doesn't seem to do anything but that could just mean my machine is broken :p. I'll do so more research thanks for your help

Hey all,

So recently I undertook a project of putting my EP on cassettes and I ran into a weirdπ issue. I took blank cassettes and recorded onto it through my laptop. When I playback on the cassette deck that I used to record, the playback sounds exactly as it should and like the original song. However, when I take the cassette and play it in my car's cassette deck, all the songs on the cassette I recorded sound about 600 cents pitched up. I have a sample cassette that sounds perfectly fine on both systems. I haven't tried other decks since I don't have any others but I was wondering if anyone here knows what the issue is.

Thanks all!

Mixing/Mastering / Re: Your Favourite Reference Tracks
« on: March 15, 2016, 03:09:44 pm »
recently I've been using Porter robinson's remix of the Thrill by nero, Language by porter robinson, Technicolor by Madeon, and Grey's remix of Papercut by zedd . I loveee the mix and feeling of those four so much
I'll say that Porter's Nero remix was criticized by a lot of people because of the mixing levels (the drop was SOO much louder than the rest of the track), so I'm not sure that would be the one I chose, but...different strokes for different folks.

I definitely agree with the criticisms. That mix was not one of his best ones imo. I'd say the songs from Worlds would be a lot better to use as reference track.

Wow I absolutely love this. Its so amazing. You really have something good here. You should definitely continue to work on this track to make a full length track. Reminds me of the beginning of Language by Porter, so going in a direction similar to that wouldn't be a bad idea. I really hope you get around to finishing this, great stuff.

The drop sounded full and good. Good job! The sections of the song leading up to it however felt a bit flat. They seemed to be missing elements and I felt that they could've used more sounds and elements to give it a fuller atmosphere. Keep working at it!

I highly recommend it. If not for creating final vocals, its good for getting vocal ideas down before you send to vocalists.

It's just a shame that it's so non-user-friendly and expensive

EDIT: Btw I never try to do the pitch changes in vocaloid, I just do it all one pitch and edit it in melodyne
Thanks for the response! I'll keep this in mind if I ever decide to go ahead and try them out (which I think I will end up doing).

Hey all,

First topic post here and not sure if this has been asked before. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience using vocaloids (specifically Avanna). I was wondering if they're easy to use, a good tool to have during production if you want vocals, or if they're generally worth buying and using.

Thanks!

Thanks a bunch for these links!

Hi Dnaha, how far down the rabbit hole do you want to go? ;D

HTH:

If you're finding it hard to find a vocalist, consider using a voice synth:

You trying to be Porter Robinson too?

They're expensive, that's all I know. Seem not that hard to use.

Haha I guess you could say that. I can't personally sing nor do I have the equipment to record so this seems like the logical next step. And being around $60 USD doesn't seem too bad for a VST, so I'm debating whether I should even bother.

I've tried this method before but it never seems to work properly for me. The levels are always way off for me so I never use this method.

I have the PreSonus Audiobox USB interface that I use with a pair of KRK Rokit 5's and it solved most of the audio interference issues I had. That being said, my interface does spazz out sometimes and disconnect for a second or two, but I think that problem might be specific to me. Overall, the Audiobox is a great interface especially for the price.
