WIPs / Re: OPINIONS ?

Vocals are definitely in order otherwise this becomes just your regular beat on soundcloud. Try using pretty gamous rap acapellas. What I've found lately is to use older rap acapellas. early 2000's maybe. As everyone is using the current rap songs of today

WIPs / Re: Major Lazer Remix - Is this at all memorable?

To answer what you've asked.

Yes and no.

With better arrangement - yes. The drop kinda comes outta the blue and I'm not a fan of those 8 bit chords. Theyre a bit out of place. The whole song sounds a bit like a skeleton, as expected if you just did it last night.

I think a more polished version will be better to make a judgement. But my opinion is this is more on a positive note than not.

Like everyone said, cool drop but the mix is lacking oomph. I think that melody that comes in at 36s is slightly too pitchy? Maybe drop it an octave and it would be less piercing?

WIPs / Looking for a rapper/vocalist for this chill track?
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:15:26 pm »
Hi guys, might be an obscure title seeing as this is a producer forum. Nevertheless, I have this chill track which I like but I think can be elevated with some vocals. Does anyone have any suggestions on who I can hit up?

Other than that. Can I get the usual feedback? What do you like, what could change? How's the track sounding overall?

All comments are appreciated. Thanks guys!

ohhhhhhhhhhhh shit man. This was SO NICE. I love it. Great job. At first i didnt like that top kick over the 808 because it sounded muddy but yo it actually works. I think the 808 needs to be slightly louder as it isnt really mixed with the lead. Sweet lead btw. Ah, great job man :)

Ricardo - never thought about splitting up various brass sounds in various frequencies.
Nice tip!

I feel like the mix is clean however it's not special (don't mean to be harsh) I noticed you used some sort of vowel bass but its tucked away and so hidden it sounds rumbly to me and that's something I didnt enjoy. Your drums sound clean with the bassline however.

Like you, I have been transitioning into more hip hop stuff haha

Yes this is pretty fresh however that screechy hoover lead is really not my taste tbh. Just sounds so random. Sweet use of reverb + w.noise man

Was trying to go for that Deorro sound. But appreciate the honesty. Might revamp this whole project now! Thanks

Your mix is not muddy, by any means. Just a bit boring. I find with trap music mixing is a bit easier.

The low end is dominated by a single 808. Anything that isnt an 808, you highpass to about 200Hz or so, maybe more. However don't be too drastic with this.
I dont think you sidechained your 808 to your top kick. That is a biggie for me because it sounds like a big block of sine throughout and its rather tiring on the ears. I also like to make my top kick clicky by removing low end + compression + transient shaper. Those brass sounds could definitely use some more punch. They're not very in my face. So process more?

A general feedback I will say is:
Get your 808 popping.
Make your snare noticable.
Make your lead shine.

I think if you can focus on these 3 elements you can make a good song. This is my process (for trap). Curious to hear your thoughts and other people's.

Finished Tracks / Re: lofi weird beat. What do you think?
« on: January 11, 2016, 11:47:21 am »
Very nice track but I would definitely go for a more prominent kick. I feel like its just a soft sine hitting instead of a kick. lacks the 'bite'. However seeing as this may be an interlude track i understand if that's the vibe you're going for

I think the mix is good but the melody is not catchy/groovy enough. The vocals do not fit at all imo. This would be a much better track as an original. Nice job on the mix
