Sound Design / Fatum Basslines
« on: April 19, 2016, 12:48:58 am »
Anyone have any good tips or references to how to make these types of sounds/basslines?  Maybe any sound design videos that are in a similar style.  I was also wondering if you think Fatum may be using sampled bass sounds as well?  My current approach to these types of sounds has been with Serum.  I have been using saw waves mostly.  and then for processing I have been using saturation (camel crusher/decapitator), Ableton's redux, and some other processing, maybe compression.  Also I have tried some of the formant filters modulated with an lfo for some interesting effect.  I understand that these sounds have multiple layers but does anyone have any tips for these sounds? Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers!

I think this is a great video to show how well serum handles sound compared to the virus.

Splice has a great list of free plugins!  I'd definitely check that out.

Hey man,

If you haven't I would absolutely watch ill gates methodology.  Its the first 40 minutes of his workshop and addresses exactly this.  He touches on the importance of finishing track and building the skill to finish tracks.  And once you can pump out quantity then you will begin to develop quality.  He also touches on a lot of other life aspects definitely worth devoting some time to.  Sam Matla from EDM Prod also has good resources and interviews and also his guide to workflow.  Hope this stuff helps!

Cheers,
Rob

You are absolutely right. In fact I was actually pushing my limiter hard to see what happened and this was that one.  This one wasnt pushed as hard.  Let me know if it still is haha. thanks for the feedback!

WIPs / Plucks & Rack (Idea) - Mat Zo Inspired

Hey guys,

This is just a loop testing out some sounds that I had worked on in context.  It is inspired by older Mat Zo stuff with nice plucky leads with delay.  Just wanted to throw an idea up.  I'm very excited to be a part of this community and thanks for making this happen Mat Zo and all admins!

Cheers!

I think one good way which is not always the right way for a song is the way ill gates has explained it before.  If you have a good idea (lead, drums, pads etc, in a loop) then you can copy paste out through however long you want the track to be with all the basic fundamentals there.  From there you can cut out what you don't want in different sections of the song.  Then you could possibly improvise with different sounds in different sections such as a break or a bridge.  And you could also use effects to help with transitions such as EQ'ing out elements or using delay to roll into a new section.  Obviously this is for a more structured type track where experimenting with arrangement is not a huge focus.  But even with this you can still mess around with arrangement and come up with something cool.
-Cheers! ;D

P.S. Thanks for starting this Mat!  It will be a great outlet!
