The problem is that when I acquired tinnitus in my right ear I thought it was okay as I still had my left ear intact. But the problem has started only recently when even my left ear also started hurting. Feels like my eardrums have become too sensitive or maybe they have always been and now that I've started producing, the incompetency of my ears is catching up!!!

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Ears aren't helping!!!
« on: August 11, 2016, 04:02:02 am »
So, I have got tinnitus in my right ear and its unusable for very long periods. So I use my left ear mostly for all the mixing and the mastering process. But now, even my left ear has also started deteriorating and both of my ears hurt badly even if I hear some music for about 30-45 minutes. I want to make so much music but my ears just won't let me. And now it has put me in such a dilemma as to what should I do ahead? I mean there's nothing more "dear" to me than making and listening to music. Its getting really very depressive. Help me people!!!  :'(

Thanks man!!! I'll look forward to it but still when I hear the other professional producers' songs and then compare with mine, mine are a total mess. But I'll just keep producing and hopefully someday my songs will also shine as bright as theirs!!!  ;)

Mixing/Mastering / How do I make the kick more distinct and full of room???
« on: February 24, 2016, 04:55:51 am »
I have been producing for quite some time now but I am not being able to bring the kick out very distinctly and bring some space to the mix. Everything sounds very hotchpotch and every element being one over the other. I have tried many of the mixing techniques. I have used sidechaining, subtractive eqing, cutting the lower frequencies on other leads and synths, increasing the important frequencies on the kick, etc. but without much accomplishment. I just can't seem to find what I'm doing wrong. Please help!!!

And also the bassline on my mix also seems to get lost when the I keep adding instruments on the chords and leads. What should I do about this???

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: No Music Background...Thoughts?
« on: February 07, 2016, 05:04:57 am »
I don't think having a musical background that important. I mean if you're classically trained or schooled, it does help but if you really have a thing for music you'll get there by yourself more or less the same as any other professionally trained artist. It might take more time but you'll be having a solid and honest way of making your own music if you learn everything on your own rather than getting trained by someone who'll only tell you to do things in their way and not your own!!!

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: MIDI vs Audio
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:49:18 pm »
Well I usually convert the MIDI into audio after finalization so that it doesn't eat my computer up much. I saw that using a lot of MIDIs ate up whole of my computer which resulted in clipping which is not very good thing while making something. But yes, for the main melody I use MIDIs most of the time so that it can be changed when I want to.

I really enjoy what you've got so far here! Definitely dig the ambiance early on. I enjoyed the use of reverb floating around.

A few pieces of advice: It is pretty muddy. Mind you, this is all just my objective opinion, but there isn't really enough definition to what's going on. What I mean by this is try and aim for a more defined baseline. Cut out some of that muddy low end from the pads to make space for your kick and to add more of a bass line. I think it could go a long way towards adding groove.

Definitely try and get the kick to punch through more.

The only other thing I noticed is that that arpeggiator lead sounds a bit too compressed to me.

Really aiming for constructive feedback here so let me know if you need any clarification. I really like what you've got so far! I just posted my first song a few months back and have improved a lot since. Keep it up for sure!

Well I looked into that muddy mix part and it did turn out to be muddy as the pads were indeed clashing with the leads and after sidechaining the pads and other such instruments it did seem to shine a bit.

I even sidechained some other elements to the kick and it did help out to bring that punch out.

And thanks a lot for pointing out my drawbacks as it will only help me know my downsides so that I can get better and better. I know that the technical part is a bit of my downside so I'll have to focus on that now.

Hi The Dog :)

0:00: Intro feels a bit too side chained here, unless that was the artist choice you were going for, I would reduce the side chain and use it only after the kick comes in.

0:48: I think you could maybe pan the element (hats) a bit and lower the volume on it by at least 2 db.

1:07: Nice drum roll :)

1:15: I would follow bettlejuice's suggestion about the kick and check all other elements and see which ones have frequencies clashing at the low end.

2:45: Good use of the white noise sweep

I hope the this helps. Keep making music :)

Thanks for the reply lemonster :)

I was not really sure about the intro as to which should've been on the top but I didn't sidechain the stringy sound but actually decreased the volume a bit with automations!!!

and yes I realized that the hat was a bit too high w.r.t. the other sounds.....so thanks for pointing that out.

About the drum roll, I thought it was the weakest part of my song as I wanted to make it a bit punchy and little spreading but you liked it so its a good thing now  ;)
