I'd love to hear more "oomph" on the kick. It sounds really dry to me at the moment. And maybe a bit too clicky but that's my personal taste.
That would really support the groove, that I really like

Other than that, I like it, it has a lot of potential

Nice one ! I like it !

My main concern would be about the lead. The way I feel it is that it might have too much mids. Maybe it lacks a bit of clarity or brightness.
(thinking of this as an example https://soundcloud.com/wearegalantis/galantis-runaway-u-i-1)

The other point is regarding the break right after the drop. I would love to hear it wide open. Everything feels a bit too centered and close at the moment, I believe you have something really nice going on and it would gain a lot with better spacing and depth. Especially if you get rid of the drums at the very beginning of the break, let everything breathe, and then put them back

First of all a big sorry if it doesn't belong to this category I didn't know where to ask

I've been asked about a track if it contains any uncleared samples. And it does contains a sound from a youtube video.
The obvious answer is yes there is an uncleared sample in the track and I might as well go with that.
But I was wondering if it's really the case or not, since that video is I guess not being used to make money or sold, and as I hear so many tracks doing the same. Does it apply only while maybe sampling an existing and commercial track or does it apply also here ? Where is the line ?

Thanks a lot in advance if any one of you can enlighten me on such topic  :)

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / Re: Ghost Production: Discuss
« on: January 11, 2016, 11:33:01 am »
I would be disagreeing at first but then I don't really think I care.

The main stuff for me is enjoying music, yes sometimes it's disappointing to know that a certain artist didn't make himself a certain track. But then so what. Most of this happen, as far as I know, to more mainstream sides of EDM which I'm not that much into anyway. And I would still like the track anyway

Another good example. I've been at Tomorrowland 2014 and it was one of the best time in my life. There are so much discussions about real live mixed set or prerecorded stuff. And well, on sunday night with overly mainstream artists like David Guetta or Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike I didn't care for a second. It was much about the combination of light, fireworks and music perfectly synched than the mixing skills. Even if I'm much more into dubstep/dnb and so on at first

So yeah, against the idea but all that matters is the fun I can have. So maybe I'll just leave it to the "artists" that are having ghost producers, and their conscience about that

On a more abstract level I would say everything. From all of the electronic music history to all aspect of life. Doesn't make my music unique or totally new but that's still what is my fuel. And mainly emotions, what I'm going throught. Especially as a "hypersensitive" person.

On a closer level that would my daily job. Seems odd, but I work in a visual effect company so I'm everyday working on new stuff which I've almost always never done before, with deadlines and expectations, searching ways and tricks to the final picture juggling with all sorts of craft. It also makes me overly critic over my own production, which might be negative sometimes as being endlessly unhappy but I believe this is really making me move forward. I'm under other people judgement, or sometimes judging other people work, this is really something happening every single day and this is so important IMO

One little stuff that led me to some interesting experiments:

There is the filter effect, which is fine to double the main filter, but there is one specific stuff in the filter that's fun to use is the Reverb one. This might mess things up, but playing with cutoff and res (especially while modulating them) can create so really interesting bits

Big big thanks to you guys for pointing out those issues !
That will give me some good pointers to make it nicer

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Re: Experience with sub pacs?

I have one and I love it. Living in an appartement, with some respect for the neighbors it was out of question to get a sub on it's own so I went for this solution.
First time I used it it's like getting a pair of glasses, everything went clear in the low end. Or specifically muddy, so I was able to clarify things and "feel" the difference and the improvement (and I write the word feel again).

Can only recommend it !

Nice start ! I'm liking the feeling of it.

My main feedback would be about the drums. In my opinion that would be the biggest part of such track, to really give the rythm and some thump.
Kick: I would like to hear more low end on this, maybe a separate sub or 808 with a longer tail to emphasize that slow feeling melted with strengh. I notice you don't have much low end elsewhere so that might sit really well in the mix
Snare: I think it lacks some clarity. Maybe by adding a hat or any other kind of high percussion. Personal taste, I would love some tail on the snare, maybe with a sample, maybe with reverb only on the high end sample on top

On a more general side, a bit of reverb on the different elements might add some really nice space. It feels a bit "small" as it is

Keep it up !

Thanks a lot Rich !
Good idea about the vocals, didn't think of this. That might add some welcome diversity

WIPs / Mind Disorder - Fire (Drum & Bass)

Hey guys !

Here is a drum and bass track I've been sitting on for a couple of month waiting for the final touches. Now that I'll have time to make it 100% I'd be interested to hear your point of view on it.

(If an admin is passing though, it seems the soundcloud tag is not working with private links, while it's specified in the read first post. Did I do something wrong ?)

Big big thanks in advance and hope you'll like it !

My two best links I use a lot:

- http://www.sounddogs.com/ : full quality will have a cost, but they do have an awesome feature where you can select the exact timeframe you need. So if you have a one minute dialogue and only want 5 seconds it's possible and it's of course reducing the price
- http://movie-sounds.org/old-movie-samples/ : free with keyword search, and sentences already cutted.

I cannot recommend enough the FabFilter plugins.
To be perfectly honest I'm not trained enough, or good enough, to tell which brand do have the better EQ or compressor in terms of audio quality, but to me it's about the user interface. I'm perfectly fine with sound quality, it just sounds good with no trouble, but I feel like I have a better control with those ones on my mix. Mostly because of the nice controls and visual feedback. Especially with Pro-Q 2 which I love so much !

On a sidenote I'm more and more thinking of buying Alloy 2 from Izotope for my channels, anyone has some feedback on this one ?
