I feel like you have to try and write something you love everyday. Sitting down and "waiting for inspiration" is usually a cop out unless you're someone on the level of Prydz, Flume, Porter etc etc. You can be great at everything technical, but if you've only attempted to write a few songs this past month (not saying you did, just an example) then I think that's really limiting to one's growth and progress. You have to do your half when it comes to inspiration by showing up amd being ready to be inspired, even (and often times) when it doesn't happen.
