Finished Tracks / Koso -- Keep It Real /// Midnight Racer
« on: September 18, 2017, 04:24:03 am »
Hey guys I made these two songs and haven't been on this forum in a while so I figured I'd post something by sharing some stuff I recently made.  The first one I posted, Midnight Racer, has done a lot better than my newer one that I posted which kinda sucks because I like my new one a lot better but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.

WIPs / Koso // Moombahton/Noisia/Odesza/Griz Style
« on: August 14, 2016, 03:57:38 am »
Me and my friend Revibe tried to make a song combining elements of Moombahton, Noisia (that crunch), Odesza style intros and pads, and Griz style basses (I will be adding more Griz elements soon).  The song is not very well mixed/mastered right now (the subs sound horrible I will get to that later) because I'm trying to get the foundation down now and will go over the rest later.

I'm not sure if this song is actually good or I'm just imagining it to be

Inspiration/Creativity/Motivation / How do you come up with song names?
« on: January 24, 2016, 05:18:11 pm »
I have a song that I want to release, but I just cannot for the life of me come up with a name for this song.  It doesn't really have any dominating vocals (only little chops), so I can't name the song after one of the lyrics.

I would really like to hear how all of you come up with your song names.

WIPs / Odesza Style Song | Need an idea for the drop

Here is a track I have been working on for a while now, but there is one thing that is keeping me from finishing the song:

I cannot figure out what to do for the drop.

I have tried countless things, and I just cannot work out what to do.  If you guys have any suggestions I would be more than willing to try them, and post what I accomplish for each suggestion as long as it makes sense in the song (no big room house or trap though).

Sound Design / Two ways to make the high pitched Flume sound
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:07:20 am »
This is a sound that is actually very easy to make, but many people seem to struggle making it.  The Flume sound that I'm talking about is at 3:20 in Some Minds

https://youtu.be/IfLqsNRkBIo?t=3m20s

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method 1:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make some white noise, and cut off all frequencies below ~350 Hz (change this depending on how much noise you want).  Then make a basic sine wave and put it on a low note so that it makes a sub bass.  Then put a bitcrusher on the sub bass, and downsample the sound a bit.  Then cut off all of the audible low frequencies, so you are just left with the high pitched noise.  The sub bass is only there as a carrier for the high pitched downsample noise (there is probably a better way to do this).

Layer these two sounds together and you have the first way to make the Flume sound.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Method 2:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the second method I used a Fruity Free Filter, and some white noise.  First get the white noise and put a filter on it.  Make this a high pass filter, and turn up the Q (or equivalent knob) very high, but not quite at the max.  Next bring the Frequency of the high pass filter up to around 8000-16000, the only difference here is the pitch that you want.

Personally I prefer the first method more, as you can adjust the individual white noise and the high pitched noise separately.  If you have any better ways to do this, I would love to know.

WIPs / Yak Attack | Old Gramatik Style
« on: January 06, 2016, 11:36:05 pm »

This song was based on Gramatik's early songs, and not so much like his newer songs.  The break and buildup are the next places that I'm going to focus on, and then I will finish it up and master it.  I also am having trouble finding a good bass for the song.

Any advice / thoughts on the song would be awesome.

Edit:  I just realized that the vocals are slightly too quiet, and I will change that
