Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Re: How Many Instruments In Mid Section?

nah.

You're being pretty specific, and i think for most the creation process isn't that specific.

I think you can be as specific or unspecific as you want to be, or what you knowledge allows you to be.

I will say that if you do have a range of frequency that your layers are being applied at, you have a better chance of placing them in the mix.

But how sound works is that, you're going to have little pieces of every thing that's more prominent during application. That's why you filter out any thing below or on top of other element's space.

I will say that, i did try to make sure to cut out any thing specifically that would be in the way of other things, but that didn't quit work out. It's like holding the door for every one else with out actually walking through the door.

When ever i do subtractive and additive eq, i really listen to what the sound needs in order to best benefit the mix. It's not how can i make room for others, but how can this be best projected in the mix. and what can i do to enhance the aural content.

This is a very good post. Thanks!

Sound Design / Progressive house/trance (Anjunabeats)
« on: February 23, 2016, 06:12:50 pm »
Hello friends!
Does anyone have some tips on where to find lessons/tutorials on melodic progressive house/trance sound design? I'm thinking Anjunabeats style. Even more general stuff like "in the studio" videos and things that can relate to the genre would be of tremendous help. Thanks guys <3

If you want a more specific picture of what I'm looking for, I have things like these in mind:

EDU - Action Hero (Prog mix)
Nic Chagall - This Moment (Prog mix)
Above and Beyond - Thing Called Love (Mat Zo remix)
Mat Zo & Arty - Rebound
Shinigo Nakamura - Thousands of Sounds
Roald Velden - For You

Composition/Arrangement/Theory / Rise/fade

What is the name of the part of a song where one uses a rise (/fade) effect in between the different "parts" of the song to build up and sometimes also "release" tension to make the song more dynamic? You know, when one can use white noise, a snare build, two crashes where one of them is reversed and those kind of things? I would like to know some advanced techniques, because I'm still a basic bitch. There are some artists who i think are extremely good at this, like Arty, Mat Zo, Deadmau5 and Savant. Please let me know if anyone has any information and knowledge about this, or where i might find it, video lessons and such would also be great! Thanks guys <3

Sound Design / Re: The "How do I make this sound?" thread

Anyone got any idea on how Mr. Quinn made the lead synth at 1:53 and 3:32? I hate to use buzzwords, but to me it sounds very 'crispy'. I am not very experienced at sound design, but this would be a great way to start. Any help appreciated!

Samples/Plugins/Software/Gear / Drums
« on: January 06, 2016, 01:09:54 pm »
I'm looking for tips on how to build a good drum library with quality samples.
Do I have to pay big money to get proper quality, or can free sample packs do the trick? Is it the bigger library, the better? Do most professional producers make their own drum samples?

Please, do enlighten me!  ;D
Thanks!
