I LOVE them. I recently bought a JV-1080 just for its presets and I don't intend to program it. With that said, sadly there aren't a lot of useful presets within Reason for the music I make so I have to make a lot of sounds on my own.

Completely depends on the sample and what you want to achieve. I make happycore, and I've found myself cutting at about 400 Hz lately to make room for everything else in the mix (a lot).
