Chrome Sparks more than likely didn't use a vst for that sound, he live samples a lot of stuff. But I'd go with what cryophonik said and get Silk, that's probably the closest you'll get to what you're looking for.

I have a focusrite 2i2 and really like it, can't say much for the others since I've never used them. Also, most newer midi keyboards are connected by usb, not with an audio interface. For a hardware synth + midi keyboard you will need one.

in most cases (not always), drums are more towards the center of the mix, and bass almost always is. If you could find a way to extract the side channels of the song you are looking to work on, it should take out some of the drums, but it probably wont sound too good without the center channel there. Adobe Auditions has an effect that extracts the center channel of the mix, but I'm not sure about the side channel. you could also eq some of the bass out without affecting the other parts off the song too much, but eqing drums out would be next to impossible. Hope this helps.

We're just afraid of a section like this becoming too impractical, cus collabing is a very private thing between two or more producers who've already spent time getting familiar with eachother's methods and ideas.This makes sense, but it can be difficult to connect on a forum like you say without a general discussion / offtopic / general producing forum section.
Agreed. IMO collabing doesn't always have to be a private thing, it could just be some mess around project where you guys can work on a song together and learn from each other. For my first collab, it was just some random guy I became friends with on skype and we ended up working on a project together, and I ended up learning a lot from him. We still never released it, it's basically just a completed song at this point that we can mess around with and try new things on. But I also agree with Mat, if you're actually trying to make a serious song with someone, a section like this might not be of much help. In most cases you do already know the person you are going to work with pretty well, and it isn't some random person you meet online. I'm sort of contradicting myself here, but the worst that can happen with a section like this is that it doesn't work out and you can delete it off the forum.

Maybe a long shot but try lowering your ceiling on your master channels limiter (assuming you have one on there). Try around -1db to start and see if that helps at all.
