Finished Tracks / Siarate - Just a moment from now // Ambient
« on: February 08, 2016, 04:49:00 pm »
Hi everyone! :D

For a longer time now I've been experimenting with different kinds of drum-patterns (or you know... drums in general. I've always had a hart time with percussion, I never got the sounds to fit in with the rest of the track). I've always admired producers like Jon Hopkins and Aphex Twin for their abilities to layer complex drum-patterns over well written and absolutely gorgeous sounding ambient pieces. It took me a while but just a few months ago I decided to try it out for myself. This is not my first attempt at this, it is however the only attempt I found good enough to share. I'd love your opinions on the track and what I could to to improve future songs. Thank you! :D

Could have been cool if you mixed the percussion up a bit around the 2 minute mark instead of the fast kick and maybe an ambient reverse, reverb vocal or something could have been added to the background of the second chorus just to take it to the next level compared to the first?

I'm not saying I'm a terrible singer... but I do sound like a fucking donkey so don't expect any vocals from me  :-\ I would however like to have some ambiance in the track to fill out the middle part especially. I'm not going to make any more changes to the track right now but I'll keep this in mind for new projects :D Thanks!

There is like, no dynamic range in your main part of the track at all. I would also change those drum samples to a more... suitable sound for this style of sound.

Dynamics are supposed to be pretty much non-existent in the chorus. It's a heavy track, so everything will automatically sound very packed and dynamically lacking. Although if I'm pushing it a little too hard, I'll try and, as I said, keep it in mind for new projects, thank you :D

Still one of my favorites by you ! ;)

really loved the transitions to the drop you had originally before you fixed the mix on the track and reuploaded, still great nonetheless

Decided to throw them out since, with this new mix, they really didn't fit at all... They where a little too cheesy and meh in my opinion, hopefully it still sounds okay without them :) Thank you!

MifzanHerawan Already said what was on my mind, everything is great to me except for one thing, I think the pluck melody you've got in the intro and the first verse is a little too quiet, I'd raise it up just a lil bit :) Great job none the less! :D

I'm not sure if it's a deliberate decision to have the clock in the intro, the hats and the snare in the chorus be so quiet. They could be raised a few dBs so they're not drowned out by the other sounds in the track. I can't find any other mix-related issues. It's a very clean song tbh although I can't be 100% sure since soundclouds 128-bitrate thing is really fucking with the high-end of the track. I'm just going to assume the mix is balanced since it seems like you know exactly what you're doing. I'd want the track overall to a little louder though but that's pretty much it :) Great song so far!!

Hello! :D

I posted this song two months back on my soundcloud page, even though other people was into it and said it was an okay song, I never really liked the song myself. The mix was way to dry and even a little bit muddy, not blaming soundcloud bitrate on that, the muddiness was 100% my own fault. I just recently decided I'd get back to the song and have a proper mixing session. I (tried to) make the percussion, the pads and the baseline more present in the mix by boosting highs and high-passing as many elements of the track as I could. In the end, I'm happy with the result I've got; although I'd be more than happy hear some professionals tell me what I'm doing right/wrong!

Thank you! :D
